Do you call this a 4x5 or a 5x6? (eye guards and antler points)
« on: September 28, 2021, 10:28:16 AM »
Legally, there are 5 on one side and 6 on the other (the smaller eye guard on the right side is jjuuuusst barely under an inch).

But I'm interested to hear what folks call this in every day life - would you look at him and say "hey that's a nice 4x5" or "hey that's a nice 5x6"?

I'd call him a 4x5 plus a couple little devil points.  I killed a buck one year that was a straight 4x4 plus eyeguards, and he had a devil point coming off each base.  I just call him a 4pt plus eyeguards.

Yea WA says an inch but where ever I have been we went with if you can hang a ring on it it counts as a point,  but also depending on the state and age of the hunter (seems a few of us older hunters) eye guards did not count as they are eye guards.

4x5 for me. If i'm telling my buddy about that buck I'd probably call him a main frame 4 with a kicker off the drivers side g4

:yeah: We've never counted the eye guards as a point either and like you said jingles we used the "hang a ring on it" deal too concerning a point or not a point but yep, an eye guard is an eye guard so for me thats a dandy 4 by 5 in the picture

If the deer grew it then it counts in my opinion. Personally I want to be descriptive when talking deer so I'm also calling it a 4x5 with eye guards. Depending on the individual id even go further than that like mtnwalker described.

Na, just call it a 4 by 5 then when someone comes and sees it in person, its a surprise :chuckle:

Hang a ring on it? Was that ever a real thing with the state of Washington? If it’s an inch I count it as a point.

I don't really have much of an opinion on how many points to call it by, but congratulations on that buck.  That's a great buck for a high buck hunt given the effort and time involved in those style of hunts.
