New Non Profit going to "Fix" Washington Natural Resource Agencies
« on: September 29, 2021, 04:35:30 PM »
Have you heard about Washington Wildlife First?  If you haven't you will very shortly.  They're basically some of the folks that have been involved in suing WDFW and others over recent years for wolves and variety of other issues.  Haven't been real successful on a lot of issues so now rather than set down at the table and work with folks they're going to do this political end run.  They've decided WDFW, DNR, and DOE needs "fixing".  I imagine what they have in mind wont resemble a  makeover but something more resembling a cross between a frontal lobotomy and a colonoscopy.

Here's the Wa audit they're going to start with to do this:  https://www.chronline.com/stories/culture-audit-of-washington-department-of-fish-and-wildlife-finds-problems-with-trust-bullying,273383

Here is Washington Wildlife First's web page: https://wawildlifefirst.org/  Check out the bio's of the leadership.

If you don't want Washington State to be turned into a NW Trek like petting zoo you'll have to once again get involved.

The members are HSUS, defenders of wildlife, the mountain lion foundation.... pretty much all the groups trying to shut down hunting.

I read the info posted on their website. Without having done any deep research, I am not seeing what is wrong. Seems this site is devoted to bashing WDFW on any topic that seems to personally affect an individual. Kind of the 'What about me' rather than 'us' way of thinking. The organization looks to be about responsible consumptive conservation. We all can agree that the direction we are headed is not sustainable and eventually cuts sportspersons out of the picture.  I am a supporter of things that work and make a difference. Even if that means some sacrifice. Anyone with more details on this organization that would share, please do. Thanks

I am more interested in actions than platitudes posted on their web page. Let me list member organizations and let's see how comparable those organizations are with consumptive use.

Center for Biological Diversity, HSUS, Defenders of Wildlife, Wild Earth Guardians, predator Defence, NW Animal Rights Network, Mountain Lion Foundation, Cascadia Woodlands, Kettle Range Conservation Group.

This is a coalition of groups that are working to whittle down hunting one notch at a time. If you think those names are interested in promoting or saving hunting your dillusional.

Sportsmen need to open up their wallets and or become active in ADVOCACY groups, not your favored critter org that is habitat focused.

I appteciate the information about the member organizations. What does that mean? Do they share finances? Collaborate? Looking to do the most good, and so many organizations with different agendas makes information critical when it comes to a good future investment.

I'm not sure how any sportsmen that remotely  pays attention does recognize  at least a couple of those names as vehemently anti hunting. HSUS Humane Society of United States should be the most well known. WWF is a rebranding scheme to soften their anti hunting agenda. This follows  the same play book as HSUS. HSUS piggy backs off of the Humaine Society that runs many of the rescue services we often think of as the pound. They steal the reputation and fundraising dollars from a worthy cause to push the Anti hunting agenda. These orgs in WWF are responsible for us looking Hound hunting, changed trapping laws, and push to eliminate Spring Bear hunting.

What are the best advocacy groups to join? I think most people are aware of the species specific groups like Ducks Unlimited, RMEF, NWTF, etc., but not sure I could name a general hunting advocacy group off the top of my head.

Those are all conservation groups.  The mirror Image of This new anti group appears to be Washingtonians for Wildlife Conservation. W4WC.org

It came into existence as a result of the Anti hound hunting initiative. Sportsmen groups/clubs I belong to are organizational members. SCI is probably the biggest block of supporters.

Organizations that advocate hunting are great, but have found themselves headed down a dead end road if they do not bring in other aspects of the bigger picture. Many have survived through conservation. To continue, I believe we will need to accept that these 'anti' organizations are here to stay, will only grow, and that hunting/conservation organizations will need to work together with them to find compromise, or perish.
