What state would you most like to bowhunt?
« on: May 01, 2009, 10:03:14 PM »
If you could hand pick your tags and win the special hunt drawing of your choice, then how would you rank the top five states that you'd like to bow hunt if money and time weren't a factor?  And what species would you like to hunt for in that state?

My list would read:

1. Alaska Moose
2. Utah Elk
3. Washington Elk
4. Alaska Grizzly
5. Kansas Whitetail

Unfortunately, money and time are a factor for me, so I only put in for WA elk and Kansas deer.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

If the mega millions ticket I bought panned out for me I think I would have to go with:

1- Washington Bighorn ( really Bighorn anywhere I don't care where as long as I hunt Bighorn )
2- Washington Late Mule Deer
3- Vancouver Island Black Bear ( Does Canada count? )
4- Alberta Mule Deer or Arizona Elk
5- Washington Elk ( auction tag ) or if Claudia would just call!

My list would actually be longer but those are probably the top 5. Bighorn is my dream hunt the rerst are really tied for second.
Shut up and Hunt!

am surprised no one has mentioned Red Stag in New Zealand... of course that is a country not a state but still, between that and Kodiak for Brownies are my top dream hunts.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

I drew an archery Dall Sheep tag for Alaska's Chugach State Park for Oct 1-10...its the second time I've drawn the tag. I'm taking 7 days to hunt Southwest WA for early archery elk...this is going to be a sweet year!

If you do a little research it's suprising the amount of do it yourself hunts that are available within 20 miles of Anchorage.

I thought that a non resident of Alaska had to have a guide in order to hunt. Thats what the guys told me when I went up there fishing a few years ago told me. Either way its probably still too exspensive for a guy like me at this point in life.

Its true you do have to have a guide if you're a non-resident and are looking to hunt Sheep, Goats or Brown/Grizzly bear. That is unless a family member within the second degree of kindred acts as your guide. I was speaking mostly of Moose and black bear opps. Total cost for the sheep hunt will be airfare plus the $500.00 non-resident sheep tag.

Yes non residents have to have a guide to hunt Dall sheep and you have to put the guides name on your application even. So unless he is a resident or has a first of kin relative there he is in for a rude awakening

I know for me being classified as NON- resident military for my first 12 months there i'll just do small game and scouting.   They have at least changed licensing eff 1 june i all tags are free, with license same as a res, but now i even have to have a guide to hunt deer lol.

Well I drew out on a LE Pronghorn in Utah 8659 people put in for 2 tags and I got one  :IBCOOL:.  Now all I have to do is hit it every year everyone that fills there tag gets a P&Y out of it.
My next choice would be a AZ Elk
Missisppi swamp Whitetail
Texas Desert Whitetail
Done the Utah Deer and Elk and filled both of them.
