Pete, I would say no. Primarily because you will already struggle with comparing your new dog to your old one. I went through the same thing when my 4 year old Chessie, Sima died. I got a new pup and no matter how much I told myself not to make comparisons, I still did. It took me a while to really start to bond with Kaie(my 2.5yo girl) I didn't like her for a long time but, now, she is my buddy, goes everywhere with me. She has earned her place. It wasn't always the case. For a time, I just didn't like her because she wasn't my old dog Sima.

I suspect you will find your new dog isn't the same but, will make his/her own place in your house and life. They each bring something new to the table when you take them into your family. My Kaie, she is the clown of all Chessies. My last one, a lot more serious....my new one? I don't know. I'll keep you all posted after I've had some time to spend bonding with him.....Good luck---I'm off fishing...Paul
