Looking for advice Montana region7
« on: December 06, 2021, 11:54:57 AM »
looking to try and get drawn for my wife and I and my 13 year old daughter. Want a chance at either mule or whitetail buck but dont have to be monsters as wife and Daughter do really care as to how big of a buck they get just avg 2-3 yr old would be fine for them.

Been looking at a few different units but not sure which will work the best we will be limited on how far we can walk as my wife had a major ankle surgery and cant walk far because of it.

any help would be great even just a unit or portion of unit to look at Ill driver over and scout if I get drawn during archery to see if I can find one to shoot then.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Good luck to you

I know you've offered plenty of advice/help to people on here (especially with moose)

I hope what goes around comes around for you

I've hunted all over Montana. PM me with some more specific questions and I'll do what I can to help. Keep in mind that you and the wife have to draw and your daughter can buy otc tags if you draw.

I sent you a PM. Best bet is to wait until the game dept gets their 2022 Access Guide published, then request a copy of the 700 unit access guide.

I think (not 100% sure on the age cutoff), but your daughter can hunt OTC, and for half price. I took my daughter over a couple years ago and bought her an apprentice hunter tag. Look into Montana's Block Management Program. Lots of additional opportunities open up. I have only hunted the east side of the state, but have been very fortunate every time I go.

Yep, as long as you or your wife draw your daughter can get the same tag OTC at half price. Your daughter doesn’t have to play the draw game, just you and your wife do. I hunt R7 and there is plenty of BLM and state land to hunt, add in BMA’s and you have even more.  You can peruse the block management maps online. If you go, make sure you have On-x maps if you don’t already. Good luck👍
