Not seeing much in central MT. Small bucks all day. Nothing worth shooting. Couple more days of looking and it might be tag soup year.

Old man and I left at midnight last night and were out at daylight. He ended up killing a solid 4 point whitetail with a huge body. Spent the day getting it out, boned out and back to town to get checked into the motel. I only hunted around 2 hours and saw some small bucks sparing which is a good sign.

First MT trip was a crazy one for sure! Rain the first day, then 71 deg, then 60mph winds, then 10 deg!?!? Moved spots a few times and finally found a area that had more deer than I have seen in the last 5 years! I glasses up this buck chasing a doe on another ridge so I went after him. All I had was a neck shot at 150 yards so I took it and he folded. I met up with my brother and we went back up to where my buck was and he found another buck chasing a doe and stopped just long enough to get a 7mag injection at 60 yards. It was a great trip and even better memories!

Please take a doe if so, the doe/buck ratio is ridiculous, I have passed on many bucks I'd have taken in WA, because I can in this state, and plan on shooting a doe last day if I don't see a buck worth taking.  Does to bucks where I'm at is like 20/30 - 1, ridiculous, so many small bucks, want to let em grow up big.  Anywho, good luck on finding a stellar buck!

Tag soup before a small buck or doe for sure. Mostly elk hunting for me son with a side of deer hunting. I enjoy just being out here. I did see a trophy 2x2 today I have trail cam pictures of. Probably 20+” wide and probably 20” tall. Don’t know how to past pictures. He’s spreading poor genetics around here.

The big 2x2  might need to take him out if possible

Just got home after spending 7 days in the hills. Saw deer every day but not the caliber of buck I was looking to tag, at least on the public land we were hunting. One old brute of  buck would have hit the dirt but he had busted off an entire side, he was a tank.  My 15 year old was able to take his first buck after spotting him 3/4 mile away and making a stalk to within  75 yards. That made the entire trip for me along with an exciting week of memories made with my son and dad.

7 out of 9 in our group. The weather and rut are getting better, wish I was out there this coming week. We saw deer every day just not in numbers we’re used to. Big bucks on private. Not much up high in the hills. SE corner.

Well finally got it done today. After three days, and almost a mile stalk to get within 300yds of this 3pt and his haram of does, 2021 buck is tagged. This is the best my area in se MT has to offer right now… on public land. He was with six does. Wife also shot a 2pt yesterday for her first ever deer harvest. Definitely super hard hunting this year. The locals also told me that the drought and blue tongue have really hurt the deer this year.

We hunted central MT on public land.  Saw only a few bucks and shot small ones.

But we got a cow in the timber, which was awesome and the highlight of our trip.

Got in lots of good hunting and experiences in some great terrain.

Came home with two bucks and a cow.

69 degrees in central Montana today. Not the best late November deer hunting weather.

Finally filled my last (doe) tag yesterday. It happened the last hour of the last day. 2021 is in the books. This was a rough one. Now time to an next years’ hunt. Here are pics of my wife’s and my bucks.

I've been hunting Northeastern Montana for 9 years now started out really good but the last two years we're full of non-resident plates everywhere, I've talked to a few locals and they said the same thing. most being from Washington cannot believe anyone would drive that far for a deer.  I have a friend that lives there and I stay with him Is the only reason why I drive that far. seen the deer numbers in the last 3 years just totally fall through the floor I've heard complaints from people that also hunt Malta about the same thing. even the locals where I hunted they said the numbers of nonresidents have doubled since last year no reason why we are not seeing any deer the ones that are left are on private property. Seeing lots of people shoot small bucks. I wish I had a counter when I went home I swear no lie one third of the vehicles had Washington plates from  northeast Montana to Missoula and yes I am also from Washington
