GMU 654 Elk hunting questions
« on: November 04, 2021, 11:20:45 AM »
Hey there. I’m new to elk hunting and had a few questions. They’ll most likely sound dumb but I just want to clarify a few things. I was hoping to hunt elk using archery around the Puyallup area. This is in GMU 654. I bought a western Washington tag and was wondering if that is all I need to hunt for elk in that area. I know that in some areas you must draw for cow tags and was wondering if this is one of those areas. Any information helps. Thanks, and good huntin

According to the regs, 654 is open for 3pt min or anterless Sept 11-23 for archery. It does not appear to be open for late archery. Pg 49 of the regs.

For the Sept 11-23 season, all you would need is your big game license and western wa elk tag with archery designation.

At this point you have missed the season for that unit. I would suggest reading through the regulations from front to back and familiarize yourself with dates and units.

Hey Levi. There’s still a good number of westside units that are open for late season. If I was you, I would go through the last couple of years worth of harvest reports. This should give you a really good idea of what units you should focus on. Good luck!!!
