Best E-collar for the money
« on: October 20, 2021, 10:15:24 AM »
Lost the remote to an older Tri Tronics (along with all my bands)  :bash:

Looking to replace it with something quality. I don’t need anything fancy just reliable. I will use it mostly for waterfowl and a little upland.

Thanks

I've had good luck with the Sport Dog brand collar. Great customer service as well.

I use the Dogtra 1900S, been very happy with it, reliable, great battery life and really long range.  They make some a bit less costly if you don't need the longer range.

Best bang for the buck is buy used collars and put new batteries in them, I did that with my old set for backup

I use this as well.

Additionally you should checknout Double U supply. They are an advertizer here, a Washington company and support hunting. The prices seem comperable as well.

I ended up purchasing from these guys. I love supporting local (hunter friendly) businesses whenever possible! I’m going to try the Sportdog 425x. It was on sale too so saved $20!

Thanks for the tip! They actually had the remote in stock for $109! For $50 more I was able to purchase a whole new Sportdog rig so I went with that instead (my Tri Tronics is already 15ish years old)

I'd say best bang for the buck for the everyday hunter is the sport dog 425xs. Decent collar for a decent price with good features. Dogtra/Garmin top of the line collars are much better for everyday training but a big price tag for the quality and if your just using it for hunting seem like they aren't worth the price tag.

The lower priced Garmin and Dogtra seem like they aren't very good collars in my experience. Recommend staying away from the rheyostat (sp?) For changing the level of stim.

Tri Tronics was bought by Garmin. Many argue that it is not as good as it once was under the new company.

I had zero complaints about my old Tri Tronics. I just lost the remote and it made more sense to me to go with a new system for $50 more than replacing my remote with a refurbished unit.

Thx for letting me know your experience with that model. I’m excited to get it and try it out!

Another vote for the Sport Dog 425. I've had mine for almost three years and I've never had a problem with it. I use it for upland hunting, so it doesn't get dunked in water much. I had a Tri Tronics in the early-mid 2000's and it was a decent unit. I think it was the Classic 70, or maybe the model just before that. The thing died after a a few years and I stopped using it with the new setter I had so I just shelved it. I think it's still in the basement. I should see about getting a new battery in it and use it as a backup.

Another vote for the Sport Dog 425. I am on my second one in 5 years but at the price point the functionality has been great.
