Blackies ruttin yet?
« on: October 20, 2021, 02:57:13 PM »
Any sign blacktails are in love yet? I have yet to see a rub or a buck for that matter. :(

A lot of tree rubs where I hunt, but haven’t seen anything to shoot yet.

It’s just windy here on whidbey island. Rain is supposed to start tomorrow. I’m no BT expert, but from what I know Bt’s like rain for some reason and it might get em moving. It’s any deer here, so a doe will do if that’s what I’m presented. I have till Sunday, so here’s to hoping.

Rutting a bit on whidbey in my area. Swollen necks and seen some smaller bucks chasing does. Havent seen any big guys acting stupid yet, unfortunately. My buddy got a 4x4 2 days ago, swollen and chasing

It's just getting started...but normal timing from year's past..pre rut activity .. wandering a little... rubs popping up.. another 7-8 days it should be really good.

If I could only hunt BT one day a year, for the rest of my life, it would be Oct. 23.

Mine would be the 31st. I never miss the last 4 days of the season. I've taken more big Blacktails in this window than the rest combined.

I’ve been fortunate to have some success in the blacktail woods in the recent years. I think I’ve got a spot figured out. These 5 bucks were all taken within a few hundred yards of eachother. Dates posted on each. Obviously that last week of October is the beginning of a magical time. Hoping to keep the trend going…

You've got me curious.  Is 23 your lucky number?  I've noticed over the years that somewhere around the 21st timeframe, there is suddenly a real uptick in shots fired in the woods for just a couple days.  It seems to settle back down for somewhere around a week, then all hell breaks loose.

Got my BT doe at 0718 this am, it was barely light enough to see her at 30yds. My first time hu ting w a shotgun and the Savage 220 20ga worked perfect. She did trot off in a manner that it looked like I missed, but she only went about 20yds. My first BT ever.

There’s some science to it, but i won’t get into that. Here’s another good reason - if the last week of Oct is the best week, I’ll be one day ahead of the crowd, maybe get my buck before the rowdy hordes show up.

Also, I’ve personally had some good days on 23rd.

Step once, look twice...

So cool.   8)   That's a killer buck just  tired of waiting - trying to force the issue.
