Both my daughter's first yr hunting. We saw a spike and a forkie opening morning and my youngest couldn't get a shot at either. Forward to tonight. I got off work and had to run my oldest daughter to an eye Dr appointment, with plans to run out in the woods after. At her appointment she had to get drops put in her eyes, when we were leaving she said she didn't know if she'd be able to see very well because of the drops. By the time we got home she said "Dad, I'm good, let's go". My youngest daughter decided she wanted to go, then my wife says, heck I'll ride along too (this NEVER happens). So off we go, since both daughter's were there, I said whoever sees the buck gets to shoot. Well, 15 minutes in Hayden yells she sees a deer, before I could get stopped she says it's a buck. Chinese fire drill breaks out, she grabs the gun, I grab my walking sticks for a rest, get set up. The buck is bedded down quartering away, I told her to hold it right at the back of it's shoulder and when you feel comfortable squeeze. It wasn't 5 seconds and the bullet is sent right at it's mark. Buck doesn't get up. I'm shaking, I say "he's down, he's down, he's down, great shot". I look at her and one of the biggest smiles I've ever seen is on her face. First buck and the whole family was there for it. I'm stoked!
