Bear down during deer season!
« on: October 24, 2021, 03:01:29 PM »
Was creeping along in this lovely black tail hunting weather hoping to find a buck and out pops a bear in the bottom of the cut. He was only 90yds away and had no idea I was there. I lied prone over the steep hillside for a nice steady shot, after he shook to try n dry himself off somewhat in the pouring rain he stepped out after passing behind a small patch of brush. I made a small noise to stop him and let my 6.5 creedmoor rip. The bear rolled on the shot and then took off running. I tried to get a second shot,  but as soon as I got a glimpse of him through the scope again he disappeared. He was heading right into a little dip in the bottom of the cut right towards the creek bottom drainage. Fortunately he only made it about 15 yards.  Made a perfect shot right through the lungs and top of the heart and got a clean pass through. This was the first time I’ve got a bear during deer season. Had an amazing hide on him. Much better than an august or September bear. No more bear tags left for me this year  :IBCOOL:

I am shooting the 143 gr. Eld-x. I’ve now taken five animals, three deer and two bears with that round and it has performed flawlessly every time. Not one has ran past 15 yds. All shots have been complete pass throughs including two hefty bucks a little over 200 yds that I hit square in the shoulder bone.

Nice bear.

What series is your rain gear and how did it hold up to today's rain?

My rain gear is the kuiu Teton line. Unfortunately they don’t make it anymore because it was way cheaper than anything they have now. It held up great.

I've had a very similar experience with those bullets, they are incredibly lethal. My deer this year went through-and-through at 350 yards, even after grenading the heart and passing through the far shoulder. A friend put a golfball sized hole in a Roosevelt cow elk at 200 as well.
