Colockum Quality Bull Help?
« on: November 01, 2021, 06:15:29 PM »
Hey everyone, haven’t posted on here in a very long time due to work and life, and hate to have to reach out now. My dad got lucky and drew a Colockum Quality Rifle Bull tag. We weren’t able to come out at the very beginning of the tag due to his and my schedule, but have been out here for a couple days now and haven’t had much luck seeing any bulls. We’ve mainly stuck with an area that we are familiar with up Reecer Creek Rd and way up the forest service road. We got into some elk when the spike season opened up, but haven’t gotten into any elk since then. We’ve definitely been putting in the miles on our boots but have been coming up empty. I’m reaching out on here to see if anyone could offer us some advice or an area to start at in hopes of filling his tag. We talked to a game warden today who recommended trying up Colockum Rd, but looking at it on OnX there are roads everywhere. I had an idea of where to start off of Brushy Rd, but not too sure if this would be a good start or not. I know what I’m asking for is like a sin, but we’d appreciate any and all help!

I can’t help other than wishing you some luck….only hunted the colockum pence and it was for a cow hunt.  We did kill our cow in brush creek area and it looked like an awesome area.

Hope someone that know the area this time of year, chimes in to help.  Hope your dad is successful.

Just cuz there's lots of roads doesn't mean there aren't any elk....both those areas you listed hold elk, just keep up a good attitude and hunt hard. You'll fill that tag...

Look at the green dot map. Yes there are a lot of roads, but only a few you can legally drive on.

Talk to any and all hunters you can, lots will give some info on where they have been seeing elk for bull tag holders.

I've never been in there during modern, but with the pressure and no rut, they will be held up in the thick and nasty and steep areas.
