Salvaging Freezer Burnt Bear Hide
«
on:
November 09, 2021, 06:21:29 AM »
I have a full bear hide that has been in the freezer about a year and a half. It was folded and put in a cardboard box (no bag). At the time I was going to take it somewhere within a week or so. Life happened and now I want to try and salvage the hide. It’s in a (non-frost free deep freeze) but I’m anticipating some level of freezer burn. I’ve read some articles that some taxidermists have been able to salvage freezer burnt deer capes by soaking them in a solution to rehydrate. Anyone have experience with this kind of thing? Any recommendations for taxidermist to do a soft tan (no head or paws) in Eastern, WA?

Call Daren at Fuson's Taxidermy. If he can't help you no one can. (509) 276-1040

It's probably fine. I've had hides frozen for a couple years without any damage. (Also, non-frost free). Personally, I like Moyles in Heyburn, ID for a "garment tan".
