Aladin Bear (very pic heavy!!!)

Well I just got back from a three day camping and hunting adventure, I will tell you that in the last three days I have seen bears, deer, turkey, and grouse, I got really good pictures of all of them at less than 100yards away, and yes I did kill something. Even caught a few nice trout in the snow. I won't be able to post any pics until I get to work on Tuesday, at that point I will put a write up with all the pics. I don't have the USB connection for my computer with me.  I hope everyone else that went out hunting this weekend had as much fun as Da Stump and I did.

Well you guys will be able to get sleep tonight, after I take my little one down to the store I will start in with pics and a story. I found a card reader for my camera. This will be a pic heavy thread.

Well my dad was going to be going up early in the week and scout for me but a couple things came up and at last minute he had to back out on going up early. Not having any scouting in this unit yet this year and never really spending anytime in the unit in early May I wasn't sure what to expect. I got off of work on Friday at 3:30 in Curlew and was already packed, I was on my way . I met up with my dad in Colville and left the yuppy mobile (Subaru outback) in the Walmart parking lot and we headed up the mountain. On the way up the valley after we left colville and headed north we must have seen close to 500 deer in all the farmers fields. Some of which are starting to sport nice head gear already. We got camp set by 6:30 and we where in a hurry to get out and see what we could find before dark set in on us. We had the quads with us but we chose to stick with the truck and cover some real country looking for fresh greens. Not 20 minutes after leaving the camp I was going up the side of a steep little grade and my dad overly excited yells bear, bear... Before I even spotted the bear I was putting it in neutral and scrambling for the gun under most of the bedding that was still in the back seat. There was no rush, the bear was about 100 yards away in a bottom fully in gulfed in the lush green grass around it, it could care less that I was looking at it throw my scope as I was leaning over the back tailgate of the truck. I watched him for about 5 minutes and decided that he wasn't big enough, during this time I had also taken a scope break and snapped a few pics of him. We went on with high hopes after that. The first night and we had already seen a bear.

The next morning came early and we got out of camp just before light and headed back up to the area we had been in the evening before. After being in the truck for an hour we had a really nice group of turkeys cut across the road in front of us. We where so rapped up in looking for bears we forgot we had the shotgun with us and a turkey tag  . I got good pics of them before they disappeared into the brush, it was about that time I realized, hey we have a tag for those.   Most of the afternoon was spent glassing open hillsides and eating snacks. Lots and lots of waiting around, hoping something would want to step out into an opening. It happend, at 4:45 on Saturday we where headed to a different part of the ridgeline that we had been seeing sign on and sure enough up on the hill across a narrow canyon from us we spotted another bear sitting in the afternoon sun. We stopped the truck behind a brush patch, the wind was in our face. We where able to get down the road and I was laying on the side bank looking and judging this animal with a fine comb. My dad was sitting, with his hand over his ears waiting and waiting for me to pull the trigger, nothing. He looked over at me and I had my camera out. He looked at me like I was crazy. I looked back at him and told him its to small and I want a color bear   I thought he was going to cry. You see I do this to my dad every year during deer season, he is extremely happy with a tender little spike or forky and I wont pull the trigger unless its at least a 140" animal most years. I did it to him again. Well at this point I was getting ready to shoot something and so was my dad. My 338 RUM was almost crying because it had scoped out 2 bears in two days with out shooting them so I let it warm its barrel up on a prairie dog town   I would show you pics of them but everytime I shot and hit one there was absolutely nothing left. I put in a few pics of our camp, the snow and the mountains around the area we hunted in. I didn't get my bear this trip but I will get back out for at least 4 more days this month. If I don't get one that's okay, remember, if you want a true trophy sometimes you have to let some walk away.

I don't know, after I shot him I couldn't find him so I guess I can't tell you  I do know ever one I shot cost me about $2.50, and thats reloading. 250 grain barnes triple shock X flat base with 100ish grains of reloader 19.

I was wrong, more pics by request  Look how light the back is on that hen, her breast was almost white. By the time I got the camera out she was on her way to another county, that was the only halfway decent pic I got of her. The deer are in the Aladin valley and the boats were part of the couple hundred that were on the Pend. River between the two dams up by Metaline. There was a fishing tournament going on, it was the only tournament I have ever seen where the banks were even lined with people fishing in it.

250 gr bullet probably weighed almost as much as the p.d. ...... That is awesome.

its going to have to be a big bear or one that is in just the perfect spot this year. For one I don't have any where to put one right now. Could've taken one this trip but I have never got a color phase bear so I will wait till the end of the month before I go for a 200 pound black one.

you had the scope on two bears already?  in 3 days of hunting?!!!??!?  i hate you.  i've had the scope on 1 bear in 3 YEARS of hunting.  i hate you so much...well hate is a strong word...more like extremely jealous.
