May he watch over the other hunters in the area in the future. It sure would be pretty neat to see one of the people who knew him be able to shoot a big billy or bull up there in his honor.

That’s a beautiful spot.

I feel for his family and department.

If anyone on here hears of the family getting a bull tag or goat tag in that area, please PM me so I can offer my assistance.  It would be an honor to help out.

Wow my buddy and I had to hike down through or near the area they found him last year after shooting an elk off the top of the cliff up the ridge from there. It was definitely steep and very rugged it was covered in snow then too. We stayed a long way from the cliffs but I never would have gone down in there by myself. Prayers for his family and friends and really all of those of us who hunt in that area. I will definitely be thinking of him next season when I’m up there.

That poor guy.  :(

I think about guys like him when I see a steep snow covered slope, a small but difficult basalt wall to climb up or down as a short cut...I'm taking the long way around. I often will say to myself out loud..."Nope, not worth it".

I think about that guy who fell off the basalt cliff in Crab Creek about 6-7 years ago in the fog during late archery. Early 50's, very fit. There was another guy in the mid 90's who slipped an fell to his death in the Wallula gap too. As I often find myself in the same terrain those guys were, they are a reminder to me to be mindful, be aware when I'm getting tired and am more prone to making a bad decision that might end badly very quickly.

Tragic to say the least. Prayers go out to the family and friends.

I've been reading some of the talk about In-Reach and Spot to help SAR locate lost hikers. Forloh has jackets that have a RECCO chip in them that are basically location beacons. I encourage everyone who likes to go on hikes in the woods to look into it. Expensive gear, but 100% made in USA and high quality.

Sorry to be contrarian, but the RECCO reflectors are not location beacons and have very limited use for wilderness search. They are extremely useful for finding folks buried in avalanches, but are no replacement for a device that actively transmits a signal rather than simply reflecting like the RECCOs do.
