Got hit harder by what? Blue tongue? Hunting pressure? Just curious.

I hunt 121 exclusively. When I left the woods on December 15th last year I had 14 bucks in the 3-5 y/o age class still alive and on camera. I pulled those same 7 cameras yesterday and only had 1 of those 14 on camera.  :(

I’m all over the elevation spectrum. I’m not sure elevation is that big of a factor this time. We broke every heat record that ever stood over here. I’m not hearing any great reports in 101 either and that whole unit is above 2500’. I do think there are pockets where some deer escaped it… I just have to find it.

I know 127 fairly well and some parts of 139-142. They all got hit hard with blue tongue and EHD this last summer. I spoke with a FW bio who said as much that they were just inundated with calls about carcasses.  For me, I love hunting and deer meat. But if I had put in and received a doe tag (second deer tag) I would be trying to turn it back in for points. Personally I’m going to stop putting in for any doe type tags.
Our deer herds are in tough shape in some regions, with drought, heat, and fires. My stance as a conservative hunter is to make sure I leave some for next season or the next generation. Let’s try to do our part with the cards we were dealt. Rant is over.
