Got Gates? Then don't block 'em.
« on: November 09, 2021, 10:08:35 AM »
Lets pretend just for a minute that we're all thankful for the few timber companies that still allow us public access and show it by NOT BLOCKING THEIR GATES!  I don't want to see your truck towed, and you sure don't want the bill for when it happens.  If the truck on the right can figure it out, then follow their lead.
Fair enough???

I've been seeing that also. Drives me nuts!

I would be so worried about what could happen to my rig I wouldn't be able to enjoy my hunt!

Back in the early 90's i worked in a warehouse for the summer. One of the employees parked his pickup in a bad spot. The employee was gone to a job for the day.

The truck needed to be moved so the grouchy old guy that ran the warehouse went and got the forklift, stuck the forks under the fancy chrome bumper and proceeded to sideshift and drag the pickup out of the way. It bent the bumper a bit. I asked the old guy what he thought "Bob" was going to say when he came back to the warehouse. Old guy said he didn't give a ****, "Shouldn't have parked his truck there"

I kept my mouth shut. For all I know the guy didnt notice the damage right off and probably figured he got jacked up in the grocery store parking lot.

I own a chunk of land next to DNR.  There is a gate on my property for a road that goes through my property.  The road leaves my property and goes onto DNR then back onto my property.  I get guys blocking the gate all the time or going through the gate onto the DNR land.  When the road goes onto DNR there is a sign that says authorized vehicles only.  The road that is on DNR is not a green dot road.  To get to the non green dot road you have to go through my property.  I am authorized to be on the non green dot road because I own the property the road goes to and have an easement.  One other property owner is authorized as well.  We along with DNR employees are the ones that the authorized vehicles only sign is for.

I hate the people that drive in because there is no lock on the gate and I really hate the people that park in front of the gate so I can't get to my property.

Uneducated people are frustrating for sure.

Heck I had a county employees remove my sign from the gate because he assumed it was a DNR gate.  After I questioned him about it he called DNR and found out it was my private gate and apologized for removing my signage from my gate.

The gate blocks people from accessing Dnr land?
Isn’t this how we get into the problem of land locked public land?
Seriously just askin

What’s even better is when you have these types of people doing this during fire season and have a reported fire behind the gate and can’t get there without either ripping one side of the gate off or getting a helicopter ride in if there’s anywhere to land nearby.

Saw alot of this business in my travels this year I'd say maybe people just don't know any better but when it's clearly posted on the gate and still being blocked it gives me a pretty good idea of the type of people we're dealing with.

This has been a hot issue many times. I live in a similar area as Rainier10 and people always show up and think since there's a road and I'm an American I can drive in there because at the end of it is public land. WRONG! The road is an easement for employees or landowners or building owners. The piece by my house was transfered to DNR but the buildings and the old house on the property still belonged to a private individual. They own the buildings but are not allowed to build anything new or alter the landscape, kind of a grandfathered thing, and have an easement (the old driveway) to access the buildings and farm the land. This does not mean you can drive up the driveway and park at the old house and go out hunting. Your trespassing because you don't hold the easement. The farmer does. ALOT of people don't understand this.

It does not.  The access to the DNR land is from another point.  It just so happens that the DNR land ends at my property.  When I called DNR and asked them do something about the people blocking my gate I was told the gate is on private property and the road that leads to that gate is private as well. They sent me a map of the green dot roads and the "take off" points for accessing the DNR land.  Where people are "taking off" from is in the middle of my property on a private road.  The private road was put in by the timber company.  I bought the timber company land.  There is no public access to that road.

You can get to this DNR land through at least 5 different legal easement "take off" points and hike across the DNR and get to where my property touches it.

I am not blocking anyones access to the DNR.  Those that are using the DNR are in fact trespassing my property and then blocking my access to my own property.

And this is exactly why there is not a lock on this gate, plus I hate gates and having to lock and unlock them.  Unfortunately the guy that leases the DNR to graze his cattle loves his cattle to graze on my property, another reason I need a fence and a gate.

You are exactly right. I made the mistake of putting up targets every 100 yards so the rifle hunters could get sighted in before shooting a nice buck on my place.

Just beyond where the road accesses my property again the DNR put up a huge steel gate and lock so it’s not like I can drive any where I want.
