Would love to see a kid proudly hanging his tag on that bull as long as its a place to legally do so. And I'm sure it is!

Really? Why not use your tag on something you can be proud of?
Maybe  he would be proud of it .

Legal where?
What's interesting is (if I'm seeing correctly in the pic) Yes legal in a 3point area, and also Legal in a spike only area (not true spike though)

Legal. My wife shot one very similar in muzzy season a few years ago and two separate game wardens confirmed. It was split like that had had a few points at the base that where technically over 1 inch. She was lucky and will be more careful in the future for sure.

I think at one point was 4” above the skull plate , and great on you for trying to get a kid or anyone for that matter on it .

Not in packwood.  Thinking of letting a young kid get his first bull if it’s legal He’d be super proud of it and I’d be proud of him so move along with your negativity tough guy

Good for you!

I've probably taken 25ish elk, and I'd be proud to feed my family with that one.

I hope it works out.

For a kid, absolutely.
What I'm trying to point out is if everyone shoots every spike deer or elk they come across, that's exactly what we'll all end up with.  A little restraint could do our already hammered herds a lot of good, now and in the future.
You'll never get a Big'un if you keep shooting Little'un's.

I am trying to understand your logic in this. You advocate going for a ‘trophy’ size, which are the breeders, so you can be ‘proud’, but want the young ones left?
What?
Or maybe you mean not hunt at all?

I have a suggestion. Let each hunter decide for himself what he is proud of.

Shoot, I’d be proud of him or any other animal I harvest. I bet he is tasty too.

Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.
