Browning Hells Canyon Speed 270 Win first impressions
« on: August 15, 2021, 09:51:12 PM »
I finally got a chance to get out to the range today to break in the new rifle. I followed Brownings one shot -clean procedure for the first 10 shots then 2 shot - clean for the next 10. Fortunately I managed to find several boxes of ammo, so I started with the cheap ones that I probably wouldn’t choose for hunting. The Winchester Super-X 150 grain actually shot pretty good and the Remington core-lokt weren’t too bad, but not quite as tight.  I had my 21 year old daughter with me who has never shown any interest in shooting hi power rifles, but she was killing it today. I think she’ll be going again!

We went through the first box without the muzzle brake, then added it for the next 20. Recoil wasn’t bad without it, but it sure shot soft with it on. I’d say this is doing to be a good shooter. I rang the 300 yard gong a couple times for good measure. We closed out the day with some Hornady Super performance 130 grain. They definitely had a little more snort to them and printed about 3 inches higher. I think they’re going to group well, but after 46 rounds we called it a day.

I can’t wait to get out again and dial in some of the more premium ammo. All in all, very happy with this one.

Outstanding.  My next rifle purchase for sure.  If it is new, can I ask where you bought it?  PM me, please.

I have the Long Range 300 Win Mag and it is a shooter for sure.  Glad you like your rifle too.  I’d like one in a 270 as well.

I have a speed in .308 and 28 nosler, great rifles. Love the feel, weight and looks. And they both shoot better then me.

Well I was able to break the new rifle in on a western Washington Blacktail. I had it all dialed in and practiced out to 300 yards. Shot my buck at 25. This rifle sure carries and points nicely though. I am absolutely happy with my choice
