Help with archery hunting GMU 101 Deer
« on: November 14, 2021, 08:09:32 PM »
Hey Guys! I’m new to WA, long time bow hunter from SD. I’m looking to hunt white tail in or near the Sherman Wilderness area in GMU 101. I won’t have time to scout it before I go out on thanksgiving weekend, so I was hoping to maybe get some tips and tricks for hunting that GMU? Has anyone had success bow hunting this area?

THANKS!!!

goodluck! that whitetail population is WAY down from 10 years ago. Its big rugged country and thick. Most guys bait and sit in stands in that unit

As with most whitetail hunting, hunt the freshest sign you find and play the wind! Good luck!  It is pretty rough and thick up there.
God made man, Samuel Colt made them equal.

More guys than ever in 101 this year but you can still find a good spot, that being, not around other hunters.  Be nice if theyd add another unit with same seasons as 101 to spread the guys out a bit.  Think 4000' +- while you can.

I had a conversation via email with the bio 6 months back about the odd season structure in 101 vs the surrounding units. He got very defensive and then quit answering after a couple messages. Basically from what I gathered is they’re just pulling the seasons and dates out of their *** in that unit

Modern season hunters have tried for years to get 101 away from bowhunters but WSB organization does a pretty good job of staying on top of their few units for whitetail rut that dont conflict with permits and other hunts.  101 is their main whitetail hot spot and they have fought in the past and will in the future for it to remain as is.

If they made 101 same seasons as 121 it would be ruined in 2 years.

Makes sense. I understand not having it be part of late modern. My question had to do with not having any quality draw opportunity in there, and he used the excuse of it conflicting with the archery whitetail season. Didn't realize WSB had such a strong presence in that unit specifically
