Any 416 Ruger users?
« on: November 22, 2021, 03:22:28 PM »
What's your thoughts about the caliber and the variation of Ruger rifle you have. I have a chance to buy a 416 Ruger in the discontinued Alaskan rifle. It's a tad more than a new 375 Ruger. What think you? I live on the kenai and I want more than my 35.
It would be a very busy rifle, not strictly for moose or bear.
Thank you.

I will always say heck yeah to a new rifle :chuckle: I have not spent any time with the 416. I did just recently have one of my sako rifles re barreled to a 375 ruger and been playing with it. The 375 gives a good selection of bullets and can be used for pretty much anything. Alot of the PH's like the 375 from smaller plains game to dangerous game with the right bullet it does it all. I think from blacktail to moose and bear it would serve you well. 416 might be a tad harder on the deer with the bullet selections out there.

I own one. The key to actually using it is reloading it down to 2150 fps. Factory ammo is just impractical in a 8.5 lbs rifle.

You don't tell me what I need or don't. For that, I'll decide.

I asked for users and experience; you offered none

I will be loading for it. Does the case behave good? Much stretching?

I've only shot 20 factory rounds, once each. Didn’t need trimming. The reloads seem not to need anyy after 2 uses. (Within specs) Can't  comment past that. Hornady cases on both.
