I'm not into spring bear hunting myself, but believe it is a useful management tool for WDFW.  Professionals should manage populations to strike a balance, using science.  Political pressure and public sentiment isn't part of the stewardship/conservation equation.  Furthermore, the WDFW said this after winning a lawsuit to cancel spring bear season, just last spring:

“The department thanks the court for its time and close examination in this case,” said Eric Gardner, WDFW Wildlife Program Director. “We know that this is a controversial issue, and that people feel passionately on both sides. We remain committed to working with all Washington citizens to create hunting opportunity and ultimately maintain sustainable black bear populations for future Washington generations.”

I signed the petition, and hold the WDFW to their promise.  Smokepole

I appreciate the sentiment behind this petition, but having it directed toward Inslee and the USFWS is barking up the wrong trees.  Inslee could care less about this and is probably tickled pink by the decision.  And the USFWS has absolutely nothing to do with the decision.  This decision falls squarely on the state Fish and Wildlife Commission members.  The WDFW recommended the season be approved and presented the facts to the Commission and 4 commission members voted against it.

I applaud the effort of whoever started the petition and hate to be a downer, but go sign the petition and then go send a comment to the commission and your local elected officials who may have a little influence on commission members.

100% Peiple need to direct their comments and efforts toward the Commission. It's easy to do from the WDFW website, just search for "Commission".

Ya I saw that too…
I still thought it might end up doing some good and so I should post it. That being said I do wish the creators (I believe it was the P NWild guys) would have centered it on the wildlife commission.

Signed and donated to spread.

Also sent an email to meateater, their most recent podcast episode quipped about everything on change.org being annoying, so I highlighted this petition as a non-annoying one.  ;)

Corrine from Meateater replied to my email and said they would be discussing this in their 12/6 episode. Clay on the Bear Grease podcast also mentions it in his most recent Render podcast so I hear (haven't listened yet).

Spread the word. It may be futile but if we don't raise h*ll it will be harder to complain. I'm hoping to work on compiling a concise list of people/organizations to contact to make it easier for people to participate. Holiday weekend is getting in the way a bit.

I've been getting replies from WDFW recommending we contact the Governors Office as has been mentioned on these threads already.

Got an email from a Washington State Senator who has stated these efforts we keep mentioning and hopefully most of us are doing, could very well have an impact.

I am hopeful the lessons learned and the sting the loss of Initiative 655 back in 1996 combined with this current loss of Spring Bear Hunting Season will motivate everyone to learn how to win against the anti's.

It's shocking as an old person who has lived in Washington State my entire life,  to see the same enemies, using the same tactics, come back to Washington State 25 years later and kick bear hunters in the a** again.

I sincerely hope hunters win this time.

I am sending emails, signing petitions, donating money to keep that petition circulating, contacting government officials, learning how to post this issue on Social Media (sorry to those I have reached out to help me learn how to do 'stories' and what in the world a 'Lintr.ee' is and how to use it)

Oh, and I gave money to join a couple pro- hunting groups who are very active on this particular Spring Bear Hunting Season issue who I did not even know existed until recently.

Signed.

Spring bear hunts are fundamentally a management tool and do not undermine sustainable bear populations. The no-bait / no-hounds initiative really changed the dynamics on bear management. The commission should have followed WDFW staff recommendations on this one rather than remove what the department sees as a safe and responsible way to provide hunting opportunity within its management plan.

So, this form filled out is actually being read and going somewhere.

Thats a hard maybe. Ive gotten that exact same email from Nikki about 37 times. I believe its just a auto generated response email, not a personalized message from the great Nikki herself.

She wished me a happy holiday this time, so it's at least a newer generated auto one than the last one I got.
WTH Nikki!?!!! Just when I thought we were starting to connect 😪

She’s hot
Are you sure. :chuckle: :chuckle:
That's funny you guys are all talking about her.
She has told me to have a great weekend ,and all this stuff before.
She is great ,and very good at her job.
I do like her ,and that was before all this spring bear hunt business.
Be very nice to Nikki ,I'm sure lately she has been very busy.
And if she is HOT
I thought so before all you guys. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I thought so before you thought what you were thinking!! :IBCOOL:

You may be right :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
I just wanted to be first.
This old man told me this one time.
He said.......
For every good looking gal
There is some guy that is having relations with her.
Don't waste your time wishing ,that you are him.

I'm sure what exactly he meant by that .
I think it means ,go talk to her,or stop dreaming.

As it would have it ,we where sitting there drooling over this gal ,and I just sat there in dream land. Even after he told me this.

That went some place i didnt think it would.... the saying I heard went a little different.

For every smoking hot lady you see, there are at least a few guys that were tired of dealing with her... you van ride the crazy train for a while but eventually you have to jump from it while moving.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.
