Guided hunt for kiddo / wife recommendations.
« on: November 29, 2021, 05:33:15 PM »
So, I’m an avid hunter.
The wife likes hunting, but with 2 kiddos it’s been hard for her to get after it for the last 4 yrs.

My 9 yr old got her first buck this yr, and for the last 3 has been my best hunting partner. She’s been hunting with me and her mom since she was born. She’s a beast. Been part of  numerous successful deer/ elk/ and bear hunts. And literally loves every second. It’s all she talks about.

I’d like nothing more than to get them both a guided hunt, or access to a landowner tag/ access together.

The issue, man…. They all seem to be $5k or more per person nowadays.

Because the little one is so young, she’s stuck to Idaho/ NM, and Oregon (I do the mentored hunter program so she can hunt my tags there), and our home state wa.

I’d like to not break the bank, so I’m reaching out for recommendations, or how some of you all have skinned this cat.

We’d love to do elk, and are looking at the landowner cow tags in NM. But to get them both out, I think a deer hunt is more affordable.

I’d like to hear some thoughts/ tips from you all?! !!!

Appreciate it!
WB

We thought about it, but the wife wants mule deer or elk. Spoiled yes. Lol
We were stationed in the south a few times, she just doesn’t love whitetails lol

Antelope in Wyoming is the answer.

The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.

This is another option!

I greatly appreciate all the input. I used to guide, and know there’s some sketchy operations, so to have the input from here helps me a lot!
I also know I’m not the only guy that has women and kids that love the hunt too, so it’s nice to hear your ideas on how to help them succeed as well.

Wyoming antelope would be tough to beat for a good success rate to dollar ratio.

Another option would be moose in Alberta. I’ve never hunted up there but I know they’ve got some big critters and the prices are reasonable due to the exchange rate.

with the 175th covid variant/wave hitting how could you reasonably expect the borders to be open to booking a hunt in Canada ?

Lot better odds than getting to shoot a moose in WA.

For antelope look at Spearhead Ranch. $1500 gets you 3 days of self guided plus lodging and access to a kitchen. Nice digs for DIY. I shot a 70” buck off that ranch in less than 3 hours of hunting.
