Got the A tag I wanted after about an hour wait this morning. Unfortunately, my son wasn’t able to log on so sat on hold on the phone for over 4 hours til the call dropped. Eventually tag sold out...same tag was still available for several days last year if my memory serves me right.
Told him we’ll be headed to Colorado (I’ll do Idaho solo if he can’t come as cameraman). It’s a shame as this will be his first year behind the bow.

We’ll make the most of it regardless.
I think you can transfer the tag to him if it helps.

3 of 4 of us got our 2nd unit choice

I was in the mid 5000’s and our first and third options were to low to risk purchasing them.

Over 30 years going every year. Now 2 years in a row, no dice. I was in the Q at 8:27 and number 6131. Curious as to what time people got in the Q and what number they were issued. They say they are randomly given

Four of us logged in at 8:25.  #407, 4200, 6501 and 9555.  The first three of us got our desired elk tags.  #4 got the same elk tag, but he had to go with the B (rifle) tag instead of the A tag.

Keep in mind that Idaho has another free for all at the beginning of August when all of the turned back tags go back on sale and anybody (residents and non-residents) can buy them.  This year there were over 10,000 tags available to be purchased.  Sucks to wait that long to figure out your fall hunts, but there's still a chance that you can get a tag.

Thanks for the tip! Hadn’t thought of that!

Got on first thing. Got number 2375 ish. 22 min wait. Got my deer tag. Buddy didn’t get his so I logged back in under his name. Waited 3 hours got his deer tag. Only to find out I got myself the wrong deer tag. I needed a whitetail tag for unit one when I got a reg deer tag for unit one. Now comes the search to find someone who needs to trade! We’re putting in for a controlled unit so it might not matter.

I seen that with the regular deer tag vs the white tail deer tag

What's the difference between the two?

The difference between the two is the times of the hunt. Whitetail opens nov 10 and the regular deer opens mid nov. Don’t quote me on those dates.

Logged on 20 minutes late :bash:.  Sequence number 22721,  sat in the que until 3pm when I had to go to a staff meeting (still had 4000-some people ahead of me).  When I logged off, everything I wanted was sold out anyway  :(
Next year, I will not plan to be teaching at 9am...

That figures. I must have missed it. I have a reminder on next years calendar already. Thanks.

If you’re planning on hunting whitetails in unit 1 there is no difference between the general tag and whitetail tag as far as season dates go.

Logged in at 8:30 and was assigned something in the 5XXXs - first choice A tag was sold out and my second choice showed as sold out at first, but when I refreshed it someone had given one up so I jumped on it.

It didn’t matter when you logged in.  It was legitimately random.

I was randomly in the upper 16,000s.   :chuckle:

Grabbed a tag.  Not my first choice but it was really a toss-up between 3 units.
