RE-Using Scope Rings and Mounts

So I have some leupold bases and rings that I want to use again but I noticed when mounting that they do not have that blue tape/substance on the threads that made them more secure/harder to drive into the threading.

Do I need to re-apply something to the threads before mounting them on a gun again?

I re-use rings often, and always put blue loc-tite on the screws. If they are ever tough to remove, put a little heat to them and they'll come right out.

So the blue stuff on the threads is called Nylok. It is not Loctite.  Unfortunately, Nylok is only sold to manufacturers, not the general public.

That being said, Loctite works good too ... But use the correct Loctite based on your thread diameter. Blue Loctite is medium strength and recommended for 1/4-3/4" fasteners. Purple Loctite is low strength and recommended for fasteners smaller that 1/4". Do not use the Red Loctite as that takes heat to break the bond.

PS ... I like the Loctite in gel form instead of the liquid.
