Need Suggestions on a Waterfowl Taxidermist
« on: December 05, 2021, 01:19:49 PM »
I'm not a big waterfowl hunter, but I like to go out a couple times a year. So this morning, I shot what I thought was a mallard and one of the guys got all excited. Turns out it's actually a mallard and pintail hybrid. Very unique and cool looking bird, so I decided I should get my first waterfowl mount. I tried to take it to Peter's Taxidermy, but apparently they are retiring and not taking any new animals.  Does anyone have a suggestion for a good waterfowl taxidermist that is local as I am in Pierce County.

No recommendation for a taxidermist, but congratulations on the hybrid!

Fred wife at Peter's Taxidermy in Graham does nice birds. They are trying to retire but are still taking limited work.

I called him earlier because that was my first choice as they are like 15 minutes from me and I know several guys they have done quality work for. They aren't taking any birds or elk and only focusing on a limited number of deer and cougars for the most part.

Matt is a member of Washington Waterfowl Association. If you call him he will meet you at the NW chapter meeting. the next one is monday 7pm at Twin City Sportsmen in Stanwood. He does great work and is a supporter of the association.

Thanks for the recommendations. I reviewed a bunch or his work and spoke to Seth Lane at length and he will be doing the taxidermy work on my bird. He was excited to have the opportunity, which made me feel super comfortable with putting this likely once in lifetime bird in his capable hands.

You made the best choice going with Seth, I have his work and also a bird from Peter's. Hands down the snow goose from Seth is a better quality mount.

Hands down Seth one of the best waterfowl taxidermists around.  I had him do my Harlequin and a bill pintail last year and he did an absolutely beautiful job.  Truly helped preserve a memory for life.  He’s a hunter too so he understands what ducks do and how they look in the wild, very creative and great with the mounts. When you step in to his shop you’ll understand why he’s one of the best.  Absolutely crazy birds in there, from every sea ducks to Emperor geese, to leutistics, you name it and he’s done it.  Highly recommend him!
