Wow.  I hope this is a positive that leads to a more reasonable appointment.

I have no faith in the Governor on this, every time he steps into the wildlife issue it's blatantly against consumptive use.  No science, no data, just the cute animal theorem.

It wouldn't surprise me if Inslee doubled down and made a revenge appointment, but what's the alternative? Would we have been happier if Koontz stayed? If he does make another bad appointment we yell twice as loud on the next one

I think it's the Eastern slot as well as if Larry leaves that are the big questions.  No doubt he'll replace Koontz with someone that looks just like him.

I feel good knowing that I was part of the force that led to an environmentalist that doesn't even know what hunting is resigning from the commission that makes our rules.  Sending emails and being inundated by us hunters worked.  That's awesome new for us

HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT APPLIED PRESSURE!

This is what can happen when we make our voices heard loud and clear.

Next up...Lorna Smith.

Let's make Inslee choose/appoint rational people that will serve the best interests of the core priority stakeholders (hunters and anglers) and do so from a truly sustainable, science-based perspective...and then have the Senate actually ratify them per Washington State law.

 :yeah:

I found the resignation letter interesting. Particularly the "It wasn't at all what I expected" idea. He might as well have said, "The commission would not do whatever I wanted, so I had no meaningful role, so I'm resigning". Kinda scary; makes me wonder what he was told surrounding his appointment.

I'm holding out hope even Inslee can do better.

Can we get a revote on spring bear now that it won’t be tied?

Careful what you wish for, though. I’d be surprised if Venezuela Jay doesn’t double down on someone even worse than him for his replacement.

A lot of the anti groups are already urging the governor to appoint another anti.  I am glad Koontz resigned, but it opens the door to now appoint 2 more antis into the commission.

I'm not at all satisfied that Inslee will appoint the right people into those 2 slots. Scares the crud out of me actually.

Out of curiousity is this a full time job and what is the job description. There seems to be a lot of retired HW member on here that I would hope would be thinking of at least applying.

It's not a full time job as they only get "paid" on meeting days. I bet they have plenty of reading tho. If you examine the rcws on the comission and examine qualifications of past members they look something like this.
Retired professional with some kind of link to hunting fishing and animals. Have worked in some kind of corperate/professional environment that helps grasp what the agency is capable of likely people are business owners,  lawyers, biologists and such. Fill one of the user groups  slots to make sure everyone is represented.

I think Nikki must be getting a lot of these emails  :chuckle:

Good morning,

Your comments have been forwarded to the Commission.

If you have a specific complaint about a commissioner, I suggest you reach out to the Governors Boards and Commissions office. They can be reached at 360-902-4111 or by email at GovernorBoardsandCommissions@gov.wa.gov.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Much appreciated.
Nikki

I sent another to the GovernorBoardsandCommissions@gov.wa.gov. email asking that Smith and Carpenter be replaced and a new comission member be appointed for NEWA.
