Collapsible Fishing Rod to LOAN?

I am heading to Iceland on Friday and goofed up!

I brought my collapsible (fit in a suitcase) rod to our new place in WI. 

Does anyone have a packable fishing rod, preferably M or MH, but anything other than lightweight would do (could catch fish up to five pounds or so), that I might be able to borrow for a week? I have plenty of reels. My suitcase is 28", 30 on the diagonal.

Spending enough for this trip, I'd rather not have to buy a rod there and don't want to miss out on shore fishing two blocks from the hotel.

I’m sure I have something that would work that you could probably have. Only catch is I live in Shelton but could probably meet in Tacoma sometime on a weekend. Where are you located?

Good luck with fishing, Iceland is a crazy strange place.  If you are going off trail or road, bring a great pair of boots, it's probably the most difficult terrain I have ever seen.

If you are staying in Reykjavik make sure to check out the Blue Lagoon, pricey but worth the experience.

I have a telescoping fly rod. Never used it. Seems like it might be a medium light. I’m 20 minutes from SeaTac.

I have an Eagleclaw trailmaster you could borrow. 6’9” breaks into 6 sections that fit into an aluminum tube. I’m in Arlington but will be working in Everett and Monroe area next couple days.

This is a Northern Lights Tour as well, however, forecast is 40 degrees and rain the whole time so I'm not holding out high hopes. ;-)

I have some nice 3 pc rods, but the smallest tube is 33 inches. If you want to borrow one, we can make it happen. I’m in Auburn.

I was there a few years ago, everything is very expensive. Not much fishing gear to be had either. Best to bring your own.

Other observations - Pass on the rotten shark, or any other rotten fish they offer you. It’s NASTY!!! A bus tour of the geysers, etc. is worth the time and money. Seeing the northern lights is pretty iffy, aurora activity level, and clouds will limit the success. Mostly the food didn’t impress me, but I loved the brown rye bread rugbraud, butter and yogurt/Skyr. Nice people, a little goofy.

My wife's grandmother was 100% Icelandic. We are doing the Golden Circle Tour, geysers, waterfall, and more, about 8 hours. Should be interesting since the sun will be up about four hours. I've tried the shark...    so fortunately can pass on that. Unfortunately, we are looking at five "days" of 40 degree highs and rain so northern lights are not likely in the picture.

Sounds like you got it figured out, I do have something that might be lighter than you want. The good news is if all else fails I'm in Des Moines so very close to the airport. Its a 8 peice 6' lamiglass graphite that fits in a crown royal bag. I'd call it a light rod but I wouldnt hesitate trying to land a 5# er either!

Tried it a few years ago at an Icelandic get together in Seattle. Three shots of Brennevin couldn't clear all that nastiness. Cool that your brother lives there. My wife has about 60,000 fourth fifth and sixth cousins there....

That’s about what it comes down to, starvation. The early settler found they could ferment these sharks to get the urea levels down to where the meat could be eaten. They were pretty desperate to survive. That’s what I was told anyway. Hardly a delicacy...

Chef Anthony Bourdain described fermented shark as "the single worst, most disgusting and terrible tasting thing" he had ever eaten.

UPDATE

Back from Iceland, what a cool place! I only had a chance to fish a couple of mornings for an hour or two in the dark. I had no bites. I did get some good shots of Eiders that swam by though.

I also added two new food items... much better than the shark! We had smoked Puffin, it was cold smoked and had a very raw texture, but the brine was really good. I wish I knew what it was. The other thing, and one I could eat a lot more of, was Fin Whale. My only regret was not getting it as a main course after I had it as an appetizer.

Best souvenir ever, lava that was formed about three months ago on the Fagradalsfjall Volcano. We hiked up there at about 3:30 a.m. Seattle time having left at 4:00 p.m the day before.
