LOL!  Never eat the shark in Iceland.  My brother lives in Iceland in Akureyri (Northern part) and it is amazing.  Waterfalls everywhere and plenty of other things to see.  If you will be up North check out the Santa Shop, Myvatn Nature Bath, the hot spring crack and if in Akureyri find the hot dog stand.

Sounds like you got it figured out, I do have something that might be lighter than you want. The good news is if all else fails I'm in Des Moines so very close to the airport. Its a 8 peice 6' lamiglass graphite that fits in a crown royal bag. I'd call it a light rod but I wouldnt hesitate trying to land a 5# er either!

Tried it a few years ago at an Icelandic get together in Seattle. Three shots of Brennevin couldn't clear all that nastiness. Cool that your brother lives there. My wife has about 60,000 fourth fifth and sixth cousins there....

That’s about what it comes down to, starvation. The early settler found they could ferment these sharks to get the urea levels down to where the meat could be eaten. They were pretty desperate to survive. That’s what I was told anyway. Hardly a delicacy...

Chef Anthony Bourdain described fermented shark as "the single worst, most disgusting and terrible tasting thing" he had ever eaten.

UPDATE

Back from Iceland, what a cool place! I only had a chance to fish a couple of mornings for an hour or two in the dark. I had no bites. I did get some good shots of Eiders that swam by though.

I also added two new food items... much better than the shark! We had smoked Puffin, it was cold smoked and had a very raw texture, but the brine was really good. I wish I knew what it was. The other thing, and one I could eat a lot more of, was Fin Whale. My only regret was not getting it as a main course after I had it as an appetizer.

Best souvenir ever, lava that was formed about three months ago on the Fagradalsfjall Volcano. We hiked up there at about 3:30 a.m. Seattle time having left at 4:00 p.m the day before.
