Florida alligator hunting
« on: December 15, 2021, 09:05:45 PM »
I have a work related trip I agreed to do if they allowed time for me to do a gator hunt 👍. I see regular season ends November but there are quite a few online adds for guided private land hunts year round. I know nothing of alligator hunting it’s a 1 time bucket list thing I probably just watched swamp people 1 too many times. Thanks in advance for any contacts or tips. Will be in St. Petersburg

I have googled there are tons of options but would prefer some first hand knowledge if anyone has done it. Looks like a few say guaranteed which makes me think it’s some kind of enclosed high fence type hunt. I don’t think alligator is a Really challenging hunt but don’t want a “canned “ hunt either. Anyways not asking for anybody’s guided alligator “honey holes” 😂 was hoping somebody had some first hand experience even if it’s what not to do

They’ve gone from endangered to so overpopulated that there is commercial take, all in the last 4 decades.  Guaranteed might mean there are just that many alligators.

I’d call the guide services and ask them to explain it, then look for a Florida hunting forum and confirm.

I was on temporary assignment in Cape Canaveral a few years ago.  I never went on a gator hunt but looked into it for my dad.  There are a lot of Gators, any patch of water can hold one in the spring when the males are cruising.    I took a pig I shot into these guys to make some sausage.  Talked to them a little about their Gator hunts.  Seamed like good guys.  You really just have to decide how big of one do you want.

While your at it If you’re a fisherman I’d knock off a peacock bass too, unless you are going to go to the a amazon Florida and Hawaii are the only two places to catch one. A gator and a peacock would be two pretty cool things to have under your belt! Good luck

If you do a day of fishing in the Everglades you can probably catch 10 species of fish you might only see in aquariums otherwise.
There is not enough wilderness left in the world, or in the hearts of men.

I’d love to try alligator hunting. I want to try the meat. Sorry I don’t know anything about it, though.

Like a lot of things, it tastes like chicken. It's finicky and real easy to dry it out if you don't cook it right.

A guy my son played baseball with was born and raised in Louisiana, "playing baseball and killing gators" is what he tells you when asking him what its like growing up in the area he's from :chuckle: After both had retired from ball he still comes up to visit and we all get together, he brought some meat with him once during one of his visits, deep fried gator slabs dipped in his secret sauce is about the best thing I've eaten   Dang! Now I'm hungry :chuckle:
