A couple days after taking that photo I learned how to use the manual focus on my new camera. It is not the quickest to use so I might not have had time to use it though.

Thank you!  Shooting the 400 with the 2x doubler on it for a focal length of 800mm.  You lose a little sharpness with it, but even  with 800 it’s best to be on top of them.   
I’m trying really hard to get a varied thrush and a Flicker  close

Varied thrushes are one of my favorite birds.......there are about 7-8 of them in my yard right now.......turning over leaves, looking for bugs.

I think there we have two kinds of flickers that spend all day on the suet feeders.

I've tried taking pictures of the birds in my yard, but so far the results are pretty pathetic...........

I had never hung suet, but I did this weekend.  So far only the juncos have found it, and one starling. He won’t be a problem  .   The flickers are working an ornamental pear.   I have one varied thrush who is very spooky.  It was hitting the last of my apples.  I discovered it too late.

It is something to get used to, especially with birds that like the brush, towhees for example

Once they discover that suet, it will be a busy place.  I put up the peanut butter variety, and they go through one suet cake every 3-4 days.

The pileated woodpeckers love that stuff.  I have some pictures of them on the suet.  I think that they must migrate........I haven't seen one in a month or so.  Usually there are 3-4 of them hanging around all the time.  It's really cool in spring when the mother woodpecker shows up with one or two young ones, and feeds them the suet.

If that is losing a little sharpness, I need my eyes fixed:)  Thought the focal length would have been more, beautiful shots as usual.
