Air Fryers.....they are the real deal!!
« on: December 19, 2021, 07:19:55 PM »
I have owned one for a couple years now and have never used it.  Always thought.....psssst, air fryer...what a gimmick!  Well to my surprise, air fryers are absolutely amazing.  In the last week we have done broccoli chicken, chicken wings and low carb chicken nuggets from canned chicken.  All three have not only turned out great....but they have been amazing.  It is super easy and super fast.

Anyone else use one?  Anything you cook in it that turns out amazing...please share.

We use the ninja foodi pressure cooker / air fryer.  It works so well, I think I may purchase a stand alone air fryer that has more cooking surface for larger meals.

We have 2 a basket style which is excellent for cheese sticks/fries etc and one with racks that we cook meat stuff like burgers and etc on.
Both can do it all but one style does certain things a little better than the other and vice versa

They are pretty cool for sure and work well.

We use ours often. Air fried veggies are great, fish and chips, potatoes but the secret weapon is cookies. Woah buddy

Watching this. We have one, collecting dust.

Ours was used for a rice cooker exclusively (the pressure cooker part) until this week.  The chicken wings went from frozen to crisp in less than 12 minutes.  When we cook them in the oven they never crisp like that.  Tossed them in sauce and had wings that Buffalo Wild Wings would be proud to serve.  Tonight we sliced chicken, cut up broccoli florets and seasoned with chinese seasoning.....though it in the air fryer for 10 minutes, stirred it and ran it for an aditional 3 minutes and dinner was served.  Chicken was moist and delicious.

You really need to try yours....I was super impressed, surprised and pissed that I didn't learn to use it till now.   :chuckle:

:yeah:
Same here but no cookies we don't do sweets. I do fish once a week, my wife does her toast every morning. Skillet's cod from two weeks ago, light breadcrumbs and go. Also good for heating up leftover ribs (if any).

I’d own one if all I ever used it for was potato’s. Frozen fries, jo Jo’s, wedges, you name it they are good. Still learning recipes, but definitely worth having

I find coating things like potatoes, taquitos, egg rolls, wontons etc with a bit of the spay olive oil really helps crisp things up and add flavor.

A full baked potato is really really good.

We’ve had one for a year now. My wife wanted one for Christmas last year so I bought her the instant pot brand one with the rotisserie inside. She’s used it about 750 times it seems and loves it. Her company just gave everyone who works there the Ninja Foodi grill with the air fryer so now I guess we have 2. We love them.

Havent done anything in ours that didnt turn out great. Any of those frozen processed foods turn out great and crispy with a quickness. Like corn dogs, hash brown patties, chicken wings, chicken nuggets, fries, etc.
However my absolute favorite that we have used it for so far is whole cornish game hens. So juicy and easy. Just a faint slime over it of olive oil and seasonings to taste. There is never anything left besides a tiny pile of bones.

It works really nice for a family having 2. The only time they don’t do well is over loaded. With 2 you can make a family meal pretty easy in just the air fryer. Like fries in one and burgers in the other. So the burgers don’t get the fries soggy.

We love our air fryer.  We used to have a deep fryer for fries, chicken nuggets, etc....  Got rid of that and use the air fryer now, so healthier and makes the food taste great.  Makes warmed up pizza taste great too.

Our air fryer gets used all the time.  A staple of the kitchen.  We had two for awhile, the Ninja and the Cuisinart (which I later gave to my sister) both in the "toaster oven" style that work as air fryer, toaster, broiler, etc.

Veggies, fries, chicken legs with skin on, etc.  Everything gets put in there.  Spray with a bit of oil, and turns out well.  The device also works well for reheating food instead of using the microwave if you want the food to be crispy instead of soggy (like in a microwave). I've even perfected making grilled ham and cheese sandwhiches in the air fryer.  Have tried almost everything in there.

Fish (Walleye of course) do an egg wash then bread with Progresso sweet and spicy panko.  13 minutes or so later at 375 is heaven sent.

Panko should be under $3 but I see it on line for stupid prices.

I can only speak to the two I've had.  For the "toaster oven" style models, the Ninja has more sq inches of space on the rack whereas the Cuisanart as more height clearance than the Ninja.   I preferred the Cuisanart for the extra height, but the wife preferred the Ninja for more square inches on the rack.  Both worked fine, just depends on your preferences.

Quick question...
Are they all loud? Our Instant Pot one is pretty loud. I assume they all are with the fans, but was curious.

The Ninja and Cuisarnart models are both loud when in air fry or convection bake modes.  Quiet in toaster or regular oven modes.  It's the fans.  The Ninja also runs the fan to cool down after the cook is over, so stays loud for a little bit after also.  Not jet turbo engine loud, but loud enough to know the fan is on.

I run the Cuisnart like KS does that is also toaster oven, toaster etc. In air fry mode it is a little louder but not bad at all, much quieter than even running the microwave. The one thing to remember is to not try to get too much into the oven at one time as the air needs to circulate to get it to cook evenly. For those that are trying to add more veggies into your diet, I recommend experimenting with air frying veggies. Little olive oil, garlic power, salt and pepper. Delicious

My Cuisinart is very load, in the summer I plug it in on the deck. Being an old deaf guy all conversation stops if it is running  :dunno: maybe not a bad thing :chuckle: :chuckle:

Ours is the ninja foodi pressure cooker, air fryer, etc....the basket style and it is not to loud at all.  You can hear the fan, but it isn't obnoxious.  We bout ours for cooking rice and it is the best rice cooker around in my opinion.  Now trying out the air fryer.....boy howdy.....I am impressed.  I would like the oven type for more square inches.  The basket is a limiting factor.  With that said, it cooks so stinking fast....Its not that hard to run a couple batches for the family.

We must not use ours correctly or something, for all the hype I've heard about them I've never had a meal I was impressed with. It now has a home in the closet with half a dozen other appliances that don't get touched.  :dunno:

We use ours whenever we do fish, chicken, and fries!   Anything frozen or needs a oil bath, gets air fried!

Great for re-heating pizza!!  Better then any microwave warm-ups!

Lately, I found hot dogs have been awesome in a airfryer. Also, those crappy frozen gas station burritos. Thawed and lightly oiled and into an air fryer and boom, instant chimichanga.

We've used the air fry mode on our toaster oven a few times but it still stinks up the house like deep frying. I do all deep frying outside because of the smell.  Do the smaller units not smell up the house so bad?

There's no oil added in the air fryer. We have an Instant Pot and it literally can do anything any of your other appliances can do. You can throw in frozen foods and cook them right up as mentioned and if you have crappy cuts of meat that are tough you just throw them in with enough liquid to cover them, then you run them the pressure cooker way, adjusting for the weight of the meat and thickness, and then let the pressure self release and the meat is tender Everytime. YOU MUST LET IT RELEASE PRESSURE ON ITS OWN! It literally makes a HUGE difference in the tenderness. Try it. 3lbs of roast cooks in less than 15 minutes. Even frozen. Then it depressurizes for about the same amount of time. The air fryer mode works for any and everything you can be in the frozen food Isle besides pizza and tv dinners. It will cook and crisp anything when you figure out timing and adjustments. If you wanna just dump the whole bag of pizza bites into a basket instead of a single layer you can, you just stop it every three to five minutes and toss them to move the top ones to the bottom. Then start again. Ours is the version where stopping it means you literally just take the air fryer lid off and it stops. Then toss real quick, put the lid back, and press start again. They are super easy.

Our basket style does not sting up the house at all.  We did chicken and broccoli last night and no more smell than you would get from baking or cooking on the stovetop.
