Diesel question?
« on: December 21, 2021, 01:24:04 PM »
I've got a 2014 HD2500 6.7 diesel engine with 65K on it. I give it a good run once a week, today it started right up. Before the oil pressure came up it died. And now it won't start. Any ideas besides getting a Dodge or Ford?
Thanks

My dad had the same problem a couple years ago. It happened in eastern Washington during freezing weather. What happened was it lost prime some how. There is a pump under the hood to re-prime it. It should be in the manual how to prime it. If you prime and start it it might die you just need to prime it again.

There should be a primer button on the housing for the fuel filter, next to it a bleed screw. Push the primer button a few times, if you see bubbles from the bleed screw, it's split. They are plastic and break easily, especially in cold weather. Dorman makes a brass screw that I suggest.

I would just go through the procedure for when you change out the fuel filter.  Mine is to cycle the key 5-6 times and it will fire up.

That was it, and it did take two times. It said the DEF was low, never got the warning.

The Gen 4 dodge cummins were kind of turds.  Well I should say they had some issues.....the cummins was still super nice.  Hope the Gen 5's are better as I now own one of them.   :chuckle: :chuckle:

Glad you got it figured out.  All three major brands have their quirks.
