Bought a handgun online!
« on: December 30, 2021, 08:02:02 AM »
Morning folks, I bought a handgun online for the first time. I've always bought in person but not this time!  :IBCOOL:

The gun is being shipped to an FFL dealer by my house and the gun's ETA is tomorrow! I talked to the FFL dealer before I sent the gun to him and he told me he'd call me when it shows up.

I'm super stoked to go get the gun, but the last time I bought a handgun was probably 2015.

How long do background checks take these days? Will I be able to take the gun home the day it shows up? Does my CCP speed things up like it used to?

Background checks take the same amount of time (although now you have to sign away all your medical info), no you will not be able to take it home as you have a 10 day wait, CCP does not speed anything up.

Dangit! Didn't having a CCP make things swift back in the day?  :o

It used to, those days are over. My last purchase took 7 days start to finish.

These days the wait for background check is more about how many people are in the queue ahead of you at that time, regardless of whether you hold a CCP or not.

I bought a rifle in November (here in Oregon) and had to wait 3 weeks to go back and pick it up as there were over 4,000 people ahead of me in the background check queue.  3 years ago I would have cleared the check in 15 minutes.   Different times.  Just the sheer quantity of gun purchases is backlogging the system.

If you’re a WA resident, the dealer will be sending your paperwork to your local law enforcement agency to conduct the background check. Unless you’re in Pierce county, they are sent to South Sound 911.

The agency will respond when they complete it which can be up to ten business days. If they don’t, the dealer can transfer it. If they respond with a Proceed within ten business days, the dealer can transfer it.

Your CPL doesn’t do anything for transfers. Don’t even have to pull it out your wallet.

Wonder what it feels like knowing all your hard work trying to get guns away from people has only made people get more guns.🤣

Bought my last two online through GB. Couldn't have been easier and I was able to get them both for prices lower than local.

Nice, yea I ordered on GunBroker and saved $200 over local (which was out of stock anyway).

I thought FedEx required firearms to be shipped priority overnight service?
