A Shout out and Kudos to the WDFW Enforcement Officer
« on: December 30, 2021, 01:56:04 PM »
First time in the time I have been going afield in WA that I have been checked for license or gear and would like to say that the officer (name withheld for now) that checked me and my equipment (traps) today was extremely pleasant  to work with not only was he friendly, courteous but also informative when asked a couple questions about what was and was not acceptable for the 24 hr rule for checking traps. Specifically about the legality of using cell trail cameras to check traps.
It was his opinion that the way the rule is CURRENTLY written  using cell cameras does NOT meet the requirements of checking traps as there could be faulty cameras or inadequate cell service.
He also advised me if I can get pictures of the person/ persons tripping my traps to contact him personally and he would impress upon said individual/s that tampering with another person's traps is punishable under the law.
Was satisfied with my traps that they complied with all the requirements and wished me luck in having a productive season
So overall was a pleasant and informative interaction

I also had a great interaction recently with a younger officer out of the Yakima area. This wasn't in the field, it was actually in the parking lot outside the WDFW office that was closed for covid. I had some licensing issues that their offices had been giving me the runaround on and he went above and beyond his job description to make sure it was all sorted out. After that we BS'd for a little while about some out of state hunts, dirty poachers etc. and parted ways on a very positive note. By far the most pleasant dealings I've ever had with wdfw, let alone an officer. Nice to know there are a few good ones out there still

That's great to hear....maybe they are hearing what hunters have to say and changing their ways.  I have only had two interactions in the last decade and one was very positive and the other....well I will say was less than pleasant.  Hoping he learned his lesson and changed his ways.

Glad you had a good interaction.

Glad to hear you had a good interaction with him. Also good to hear that he would take an interest if folks are messing with your gear.
