.22 or 209 primer blank pistol for dog training

For those of f you who use a starter pistol for dog training Wondering what you suggest or use .22 or the 209 starter pistol?
Is 1 louder than the other?

For me the major factor is how readily available the loads are right now and the cost.

209's are a hot commodity right now and while usually they are about $4-5 per 100 they have risen in price since the shortages. The 22 loads can be expensive if you buy the "blank" specific ones but I just use the green RamSet ones for construction. They are fairly easy to find at Lowes or HD but more expensive than 209's for about $6-7 per 100.

I've got a few brands, GunX, Alpha and Charter Arms and I prefer the Charter Arms.

If your not going to train with the pistol very often there's a cheap 209 insert you can buy to put into a single shot break barrel and that's much cheaper than a nice blank gun.

I have used a number of different ones, plus converted two different 5 shot 32 cal Smith & Wesson break actions into blank guns. That way you have the option of the crazy stupid loud 32 blank, or just a primered case that is plenty loud for training. AND an all steel well built gun. I also bored out some 32 cases for 209’s but preferred the primers.
 I have also used my ‘dummy launcher’ with no dummy and the 22 blanks for training. Not the most convenient, but it worked.
If I need to pull apart ammo and it uses small primers I save the primers to use in the 32 blank gun.

I have the Alfa pistol from Gundog Supply and it's been great. I originally bought the 209, but couldn't find primers anywhere. They exchanged it very quickly for the .22 with no issues.

I also have a cheap blank gun that shoots .22 shorts; I don't recommend that option as it's incredibly unreliable when you go to pull the trigger and I've also had issues finding .22 short blanks. I don't remember the name but I bought it from Lion Country Supply.

I've had no problems finding .22 blanks online; my personal experience with nail gun blanks are that they're crazy loud and will jam your gun.
