Is this a good deal on Scope🤔
« on: January 03, 2022, 06:22:18 PM »
Just looking at some sale items.
I know for most you guys it's not gonna be anything great.
But just asking is this a good option for a cheap scope with turrets.

https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/cabelas-multi-turret-riflescope

Take a look at it ,tell me what ya think.
And yes do plan on putting it on a 243.

Bought a Cabelas scope for my SIL a couple years ago.  He put it on a 30-06 and internals came apart after 3rd shot.  Good luck

I’d be wary of that. If you want a turret specific to your rifle I would find a decent scope with either a MIL or MOA turret, doesn’t matter which. Once you get it dialed in there are many websites online that that you enter what scope you have and your bullet information (either hand load info or just the specs on the back of the box for factory ammo) and for 150$ they will laser engrave a custom made turret for your set up or for 49$ they will make you a weatherproof sticker that you stick onto the existing turret. The weatherproof stickers are generally lifetime warranty so if they ever come off they’ll just send you a new one. And the best part of it is on your new turret it will say yardages that you dial for instead of MOA’s or MIL’s. So no need to have a dope card or to be counting clicks on your turret. Just dial and shoot

I bought one of their “instinct euro” scopes a couple years ago on close out.  they were Meopta meopro (Zeiss conquest) scopes with ugly cabelas branding on them. Fantastic glass for around $200 (normally around $600 for a meopro).

With the bass pro takeover, I really doubt that is the case here…my guess is made in China.

I'm still pretty tempted to just burn the money though.
Got an savage axis 243 the kids don't use anymore.
Was thinking about just slaping that bad boy on there-all budget crap . Make up some handloads this spring that will match the velocity on one of the turrets and see if it will rock it.
Still thinking on it.
I'm sure it is made in china.
Oh and I think I got points too ,so it would be like forty out of pocket.

I would at least go with something with a warranty as you will likely need it.  Cabelas is pretty much cash and carry from my experience.

Vortex Diamondback are worth the $200 or so, sometimes even cheaper on sale and at least they will fix it when it breaks.

I guess that is true.
Well I'll keep looking around.
The off season (right now) so maybe something way better will pop up.
Or I'll just keep the old Bushnell that's on it.

I will be honest and it's not very good with the Cabelas brand scopes I have purchased.  One broke the reticle half way through hunting season and the replacement for it changes point of impact more than a foot from low to high magnification.  I switched over to Nikon and haven't had a problem since.

It's  a crapshoot with Cabelas. I own one which is a Vortex rebranded. Not a bad little scope for $150.00. Sits on a 22 mag rifle.

Not sure if I'm rolling the dice yet or not.
It's probably better than what's on the rifle currently.
Like said I can pick it up for about forty bucks after my points.
It's says it's like a 200 dollar scope so I might.

If the optic is that "cheap" and you still feel the need to ask if it's a good deal, well I think you answered your own question. Might be good for a rimfire rifle, but I wouldn't trust it on a high power center fire rifle. :twocents:

That is true,it is pretty cheap.
Just be on a beat up rifle, truck gun,or loaner rifle ,or I may even gift the scope to family or friend.
It's hard for me to turn something down that's on sale.
I think they are clearing out inventory of these, basicly discontinue them,to make room for more expensive, higher end models.
They can't sell you a 600 dollar turret scope.
If they have a 100 dollar one sitting in the case right next to it. Cheap guys like me won't pull the trigger on the 600 one.

I have a Cabela's "Alaskan Guide" 3x12x40 on my .300 WinMag.  It's been on there since 2010, and it's been a fantastic scope.  I paid just under $300 bucks for it.  I don't even think they offer that line of scopes anymore.

Before Bass Pro ruined them I had faith in the Cabelas Optics.  I had a couple of Alaskan Guide scopes and a pair of ALaskan Guide Binos.  Lifetime warranty.

The binos were about 16 years old and the eye cups were cracking, still clear and bright and in great shape otherwise.  I took them in to Cabelas in Tulalip and they told me that they were so old they wouldn't repair them but they exchanged them on the spot.  Just grabbed a pair of similar (the ones I had were no longer available) off the shelf and took me to customer service.  I bought the original ones for $299 in 1999 and the ones they replaced them with were $459 in 2015.  Unfortunately the newer ones broke last year (the objective broke off at the threads where the objective attaches to the body of the binos).  I took them in and they told me that Bass Pro no longer honored the warranty (they were not impressed with the way it was handled from what I saw and heard).  The manager of the optics dept was very nice and said he could give me a pair of Cabelas optics or Vortex at a discount based on the trade in of mine and the binos I chose actual cost to them.  Obviously the Cabelas branded would have been a much greater discount but he said that the Vortex would be a lifetime warranty and the Cabelas would be disposable....  I basically got a pair of Vortex for about $250 off.  This was at the Union Gap store.

I wouldn't buy any Cabelas branded optic if I could help it as they are truly disposable now.

I wouldn't bet on it, they seem to be closing out on Cabelas branded hunting and shooting stuff to focus on clothing and fishing gear.  There are several things that got closed out to never return.  I would be surprised to see them still selling their optics in a year, who would buy them when you have virtually no warranty, spare parts or a way to fix even the most simple thing?  The optics market is so competitive there really isn't much room unless someone offered something at an even better price with equivalent warranty.  Cabelas used to, but Bass Pro doesn't want to honor warranties and or even be competitive on prices in general.

This is a very good, lower priced scope. Something to consider when you’re shopping.

So I talked with another friend that has a multi turret scope from cabelas .
He said it would not be his first choice.
But said it comes with like 5 or 6 elevation turret to match factory ammo off the shelf.

Sorry guys ........
I know a lot of head shakes and ugly faces.
But I pulled the trigger already.
79.99 - my 40.00 in points for a 40.00 dollar scope hard for me to pass up.
They went back up to 99.00 for the 243 model I got,199.00 for all the others.
Which some of you guys know that was the price when I posted link 79.99.
So here it is in all its junky glory ,40 dollars out of pocket shiped free to my house, better than the beater Bushnell that sits on the savage axis 243 I got now.
