My usual blacktail hunting outfit is a red/black wool shirt and gray wool pants.  Both were the "super wash" variety from Cabelas.

If I would have known they were going to be discontinued after I bought them, I would have picked up a couple extra sets.  Have to be close to 10 years old now.  Hard to beat wool for being quiet when still hunting, and stays warm when it gets wet.

It's not easy finding quality wool hunting gear now, at least not much that's affordable out there any more.  Woolrich and Pendleton don't really carry anything geared toward hunting these days and Filson is just outrageously expensive now.  A lot of what I own is second hand at this point.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

I wore wool/Flannel up until fleece was introduced around 2000, killed many deer and elk, and never cared about the color. Fleece is much lighter, with better warmth when wet. I have worn fleece good quality fleece since. Still don’t care about color, and the only “camo” I wear is my Columbia light weight hunting pants I have worn for 10 years. They just won’t die! I bought two pairs and both are still running strong.

Having said that, my grandkids bought me. Old style insolated flannel shirt/coat? I forgot how comfortable they wer, it is now my garage coat.

Only 2 defining forces sacrificed themselves for you:
The American Soldier and Jesus Christ. One died for your freedom, the other for your soul.

My rock,
He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.

Was in Grangeville the other day and looked at Larson's Dept store. They had some nice Filson coats and pants in there. Still nice stuff. Even had tin cloth pants and wool bib overalls. Few hundred bucks.

I still have that exact coat that I bought new in the early 80's in Seattle. What was that place downtown? Sportsman's Emporium? Or something like that. I'd still wear it, but it shrunk.... or I grew?  :chuckle:  And it's got the made in USA tag still on it!

This is interesting, Woolrich and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery are producing their Pennsylvania Tuxedo, a spruce hopped IPA.
