Does Nosler make bullets for reloading.
« on: January 05, 2022, 02:57:47 PM »
So as the story goes.....
I had that thread this spring looking for
7mm nosler accubond 160 grain.
Well I scratched it this spring, couldn't find them.
So did find 150 grain hunting ballistic tips.
I still have a box and a half.

Here's the rant.
God dang nosler ,Man I have a love /hate relationship
With those greedy pieces of dog dirt.
2021 really shows ya ,who will throw ya under the bus to make the big dollars on factory ammo.

And does everybody shoot 7mm now days ,holy smokes .
I always get limited to two boxes at midway or where ever online. Find a load ,reloading as fast as I can. Then BOOM can't find them dang bullets again.

Like everybody else Nosler has a huge backlog of orders.   They're working full time to catch up, I drive by the factory on my way to buy dog food all the time.   The "Shooters Shop" online store has the inventory there at that location that I occassionally peruse.  Slim pickings the past few years obviously.

There are alternatives that are frequently in stock if you wanted to run a copper bullet instead.....

I have had decent luck on Shooters Pro Shop. I just keep an out about every other day to see what might pop up.

7mm are the new hot thing.  The same bullet works in a 28 nosler 280 ackley, 7mm rem mag and so on.

It’s the same with Berger    Hornady is about the only manufacturer I’ve seen anything in stock and it’s slim too.

This is one of the reasons I’ve switched to monos

I managed to find a 50 160gn partitions at a gun show this summer.  Anything Nosler is like searching for a unicorn.  I can find all sorts of horses and mules but not a one has a horn on top.   :bash:

Currently on Gunbroker there is a case Federal Premium, 7mm Remington Mag 160 grain (10 boxes of 20) for a buy now price of $800 and found two boxes of 50 bullets each for $214, but auction not over yet. Not a lot of 7mm on the 7 pages of Accubonds tons of .338

Tons at sportsman in Silverdale, 160s even but $62 a box. Last box I bought in 2020 was $39. Heck partitions we’re only $42 a box at that time. I cannot believe bullet production cost has jumped that much, brass prices haven’t change a ton, primers are almost double but at high yield so it has to be powder or greed.

Ya I'm not even looking for the accubond anymore.
Seems my gun ,or my load,or whatever likes them 150 gr ballistic tips.
Cheaper ,and better accuracy ,I'm sold.
I still have a box and a 1/2 ,enough for this season.
I'll tell you guys honest, I loaded the load on the hybrid v bottle ,that is for 140 gr. Took it out ,shot it .About 3/4 group at 100 . Said yup I'm done that will work for hunting.
So I just got lucky on load. I'm sure if I messed with coal and all that I could improve.
But I don't have extra bullets for that

Demand has doubled. Supply has not
seems like this is becoming a cycle. The old argument against increasing production capacity that “this is temporary” isn’t really holding water any more.

I will say that in the past ammo panics, hunting rifle ammo and shot shells were never been hard to find.  It was all pistol/ar/22lr related stuff. Now all I can find for reloading is target bullets. Go figure…
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

Completely agree.   Production is going to have to double if not more to catch up.  That’s expensive and as companies try to catch up qc issues will arise as many have seen already.

I think a lot of these companies are just hoping to catch up like they have in years past.  I don’t see that happening.
It’s going to take a lot more equipment and labor to match today’s markets, that’s going to mean price increases as well as possible qc issues as production gets ramped up

I've definitely noticed price increase, even with hornady ,which is about all you find reliable these days.
I will give hornady that, they didn't throw reloader under the bus. And I have been trying to send money there way just cause of that.

I’m not a huge fan of hornady but from what I’ve seen they definitely have a bunch of red boxes on the shelves when I’m at the lgs.  Have not seen any other company with as good of supply.   Too bad they don’t make powder and primers.

7mm/.284 is so popular. I think the 7mm-08 is really taking off right now. Folks are finally figuring out how awesome the 7mm-08 is. I do think there is a shift away from the super mags, with the help of the popularity of the 6.5 manbun. This popularity has really boosted the 7mm-08. I hear ya, I rarely see 7mm bullets on store shelves. I have been wanting to try the Sierra tipped game king. Wonder if it is as good as an Accubond?

I can find 7mm bullets for the 7mm-08 ,yesterday alone at different stores seen 120 grain BT, And some 145 hot cor that would be perfect.
I can't use the light weight bullets in my 7 mag.
They already blow apart in the 150-160 range.
So I refuse to use lighter ones.
I was looking at some yesterday.
Two old farts walked up.....
One old guy was like...They have lots of bullets.
Other old guy was like...I don't want those hornady,I buy those anytime, there always on the shelf.

Nosler has thrown us under the bus.
I have a feeling as inflation goes up,demand will go down, and we will start seeing more components on shelf.
It's like I seen some brass ,sweet Jesus 100 dollars for 50 pcs of brass it's nuts.

I’ve never had a issue shooting 140 Partitions out of mine, what do you mean “blow apart”?

I’ve never had a issue shooting 140 Partitions out of mine, what do you mean “blow apart”?
I mean when you hit 3000+ velocity
I'm not shooting 120 grain BT out my rifle ,unless it's for varmint hunting.
120 grain BT I could push that to 3400 easy without even filling the case with powder.
140 like you mention about 3200 fps
If you use a heavy bullet ,it just makes more sense that's there is more bullet there. Cause they get longer as you go up in grain. Partition and accubond are the most expensive, and hard to find.
So to combat that ,I just step up to 150-160 ,slow my velocity down to right around 3000,and just throw an SST,BT,or any traditional cup and core bullet in there. That shoots good in my gun. Then I don't have to fight the the masses or pay the price for accubond or partitions.
But at the same time if I drop grain to much, then you'll get an explosive, blow apart bullet, for flat shooting, and to stretch out a little further shot ,I still want to be right around 3000 fps.
Not sure if any of that makes sense, but that's just how I'm doing it to avoid accubond or partitions, not to say if they where available I might buy them, but I've already started loading without them with decent results.

I saved my old IMR tin cans (why, I don't know) and some of them have price tags as low as $8.95.  I have an old box of CCI primers that were $9.95.  And yes, qty 1000.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

When did nosler partitions become 75 dollars a box,for factory seconds/overrun that are not even in a nosler box.

Midway jacked all their prices up big time about a year ago.  While I'm not a fan, I guess they seem to have a lot of components if you really can't live without them.  At least they're not at "cheaper than dirt" prices.

Sportsman's prices aren't much better, and they're still flying off the shelves.   :bash:
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun
