Let the build begin
« on: January 05, 2022, 03:25:17 PM »
Been wanting to do this for some time and finally pulled the trigger on it. This originally started with ordering a 26" bartlein carbon fiber barrel to rebarrel my current rifle. Well that idea didn't last long and decided it was time to build a whole new rifle. Defiance is is 50+ weeks out on their actions and I did not want to wait a year for it. My cousin told me about ragged hole barrels and their hell betty action. It's just a renamed tenacity and they had some in stock! I ordered it on Dec 20th and it just arrived today! I have a hawkins bottom metal and flush magazine arriving any day also! I haven't decided on a stock yet so any suggestions?

Find a stock already inlet for that action.........
I went with LRI because they had Manners in stock and could inlet to any action.   Well that turned out to be -Not So Quick-.  Over 9 months and counting with no waiting on parts.

With the 1:8 twist your good up to 195gr if desired and they are available too. I did a 7RM last spring with all the bells and whistles, set up for 180-195 gr pills. Boy is it fun to shoot.

plenty of gas tank for 195's too. I've shot them with n570 and that bc handily outpaced the 180's.

Agree with the 195's. I'm using n165 with good results.

What fun ! Enjoy the process - no rush.    I went with my 3rd or 4th choice builder because it was going to save me a bunch of time.   Nope,  result = 9+ months just for labor and still waiting......... argh....

Well I got a nice surprise today. My cuz took one of his remington stocks and bedded my new barreled action that I didn't even know was done so I could shoot it! Met him at the range and he pulled it out of his bag! He mounted his leupold mark 4 on it so I could break in the barrel today. I was quite happy with factory norma 150gr soft points. Can't wait to start load development for this!

Top 2 shots were sighting in then I pulled one shot low and right. Pretty happy with the bartlien

Those 180 Berger hybrids shouldn't need more than .020 off.  Four barrels have all been 10-20 off and shoot VERY well.  Should be about 3000 fps for accuracy in 26" barrel.

H1000-N565-Retumbo will all work just fine.  But 2 pounds won’t get you to far with about 70 grains a round. Around 100 rounds per pound.  It will take 100 ish to get the barrel to settle down.  Do you have other powder to break the barrel in with?

Too good of a deal to pass up at $1200 I pulled the trigger on a nxs 5.5-22x56 illuminated. The seekins low rings are too low for the 56mm so I need to get some med high or high rings. If anyone has a set they want to trade let me know.

That's a sweet group... I am running a proof barrel on my 7mag with 180 bergers and the sweet spot on it seems to be 3050fps.  That's with RL26 which is just as hard to find as the others.

Yeah powder is scarce anymore. I've been lookin for reloder 25/26 but no luck. I got a few pounds of h1000 so I'm ok for a bit. I'm at 71grs with h1000 and no signs of pressure. I'm gonna bump it .3 grains and see if my groups hold up. I almost went proof but seen the bartliens and went that route, been real happy with it so far

That's a sweet group... I am running a proof barrel on my 7mag with 180 bergers and the sweet spot on it seems to be 3050fps.  That's with RL26 which is just as hard to find as the others.

Loaded up some 180gr berger hybrids behind 71.3grns of h1000 and hit 3050fps today. I just loaded 3 rounds with that charge and 2 were duplicates, the 3rd was a little slower but the Lab radar mount was lose and seen it wobbling after that shot from the muzzle brake. But the group was great so I'll load up more for next weekend  . Left group was 71.3gr, middle and right were 71gr, far right was 200yds the others were 100.

After just over 3 months of waiting my mcmillan stock finally arrived! It's all put together now, couldn't be more happy with how this turned out!

It works great! It feels like I'm shooting my .243, I wouldn't hesitate getting another one

The barrel has a steel insert wrapped in carbon fiber
