Called in a Bobcat this morning
« on: January 09, 2022, 11:27:49 AM »
Found an old gravel pit within some thicker reprod today.  The early morning light was at my back and the wind was good so set the Foxpro spitfire out in the middle of the pit in a clump of alder.  Tucked up in the brush about 50 yards out and hit the rabbit distress call.  About 5 minutes in I was unable to contain a cough and assumed that the set was blown, but decided to give it 10 more minutes.

At 13 minutes a Bobcat showed. She came in at ground level then bounded halfway up the side of the pit to get a better vantage point.  As she surveyed the pit for what she thought was the rabbit I was able to take the shot.

Very cool. What is the rifle you used?

Browning X-Bolt in .243. Cut to 21" and threaded.  Suppressor is a SilencerCo Harvester.

Awesome!!!! Going out in 2-3 weeks to do the same, you guys think a 10-22 is too light of a gun for bobcat and cougar? I think it’s legal

With the amount of effort and degree of difficulty in getting a cougar in your sights, there's no way I'm risking that with a 22 long rifle.  No way.

Not good, but it was my fault.  I intended to load some 105 grain Hot-Cors this week but got sidetracked.  I grabbed some factory 70 grain Varmageddons that I had lying around instead. Explosive.  Hopefully it's salvageable.

Cougar is a "big game animal". No rimfires by law.
