Ok so long shot here but I know our membership is deep.

I want to build a wireless remote trap trigger that is cell phone activated. Like they do wireless hog trapping with.

I can build the trap many different ways. Something pull triggered would probably be best.

The ones online are like 500/1000.00 and I dont want to spend that for this random test and project. So figured I would ask here to see if anyone could help and had ideas.

Powered by a 12volt battery with solar trickle charger.

Then the pin would need to be pulled by a actuator or quick moving solenoid. I have seen guys use car door actuators, but I would like something with a little more power as the weight the pin will be under will be pretty decent.

When I made our remote training set up I used some leftover RC servos and radio to pull the pin on the wood pointing dog (to fall over) and a roller on the servo to release the trap to release the bird. The are proportional with varying power available depending on the servo.
Plenty of wrecked cell drones out there for not much money with movable components. Don’t know if you can put a higher powered servo on the receiver but perhaps it would work?
There are some VERY powerful servo’s available.

Is there anyway you could make the pin spring loaded.
Then whatever remotely release the pin from the other side.
That way you don't need a release to move the pin under wieght,you need a release to let the pin go that is already under a huge amount of spring tension.
But I really don't know.
Just thinking about it with a brain fart in my head and not seeing it ,that's all I can come up with.
You would have to have it spring loaded enough that the pin will move under whatever weight your putting on it.
Basically at that point your just release it ,it might take a ratchet strap or come along or something like that to reset.

Most of the bird release cages I have seen have a latch arm that swings over and holds back the arm spring pressure with a 'barely' over center roller that keeps it in place. Takes very little movement or force to roll off and the latch flips over and releases the spring pressure to do it's thing. Very little pressure on the latch release part. The trick is holding the spring loaded part in place while setting it.

use the cell phone relay to trigger a 12V electric actuator. Most of the linear actuators list the speed they can move at. They're not super fast but probably fast enough depending on how far it needs to travel.

Cell phone would have better range for sure. Plus, the 'old school' R/C is all pretty much all line of sight. If you need a servo or two to play with I could spiff you some, but the ones I have may not be strong enough for what you are looking to do.

Thank you GWP for the offer but I think you are right probably need something a little stronger.

Travel would only need to be 1/4-1/2” to deploy

Here you go. Tie one end of a string to a sleepy possum's tail. Tie the other end to your trigger. Steal the wife/ kid's cell phone, and lay it next to the possum. Call that phone, it startles the possum and he runs away and springs the trap! You're welcome.

I see 12v heavy duty linear actuators online for $30-$150 also. Some can handle over 100 lbs easily.

Edit: Now I wanna know, what specifically are you targeting?
Pm me if you want. I've done a little planning on this sort of thing my self for targeting the feral cats on my farm and not the tame ones. That way I can spay or neuter them without having to just kill them. They are excellent mousers.
