Not good. I work for Pepsi as a driver and four years ago I had a full CO2 tank fall off my truck and land directly on my foot. Completely smashed my big toe and broke it in two. The crappy part of the whole thing was that if happen on Thursday and deer season opened on Saturday. Doc said no walking for at least two weeks, i could only hunt extended buck. Sorry to hear that man.

A couple of weeks before elk season 08, I hurt my ankle playing indoor soccer. It only hurt (real bad) when I stretched out and put weight on me heal or put all my weight on it and twisted my body, then it would hurt like I was being stabbed. I was complaining the Thursday night before elk hunting and my wife made me promise to go to the Doctors when I got back on Tuesday. I wrapped it up tight and laced my boots up real well and hunted all weekend. There were definitely times when it told me something was not right. On Tuesday I went to the Doctors and had x-rays done. My foot Doctor chewed me out after hearing I went elk hunting (his first diagnosis before x-rays was a broken heal) The x-rays showed a broken ankle and three torn ligaments. I was supposed to wear a removable blowup cast for 12 weeks, I was able to start reconditioning at 8 weeks.
Not one of my brighter moments, but it was elk hunting!

Thanks for all the thoughts folks. Looks like surgery this Thursday, screws and plates will be the order for the day. The Fibula is a horizontal break so it will take a little longer to heal. Once I get to start rehab I'm gong to hit it hard so I can try and at least walk trails in the area I hunt. I can wear an ankle brace and maybe get some new boots that will give me good support. If I can do that, I can at least locate and probably call for my dad. I got my first archery bull last year and really want to get him his first one this year (before he gets to old to go).
A friend of mine may come with us this year which would be a great help as he has a mule he could bring
so I still have hope for a good year of hunting.
I'll update this as time goes on.
Thanks again,
Fulla

Well, I hope you listen to your doctors, cause if you go to fast or do to much, it will catch up with you and your probably gonna spend longer in rehab.
I broke my ankle and screwed up tendons and ligaments while goose hunting (the shame of it!) and had to walk out from the desert canyon I was in at the time. About two miles and it was somewhat painful and quite slow but made it in about 3.5 hours. Foot turned really dark purple and black but had to stay an extra day to let my friends finish the hunt. Doctor was most unhappy with me when I went to the emergency room. Had a no walk cast and lots of pain for three months. Rehab took a few more and while I thought I would be hunting in the fall season, I did go but was probably lucky that I didn't get anything cause I hunt solo and realize now that I probably would never have gotten it out with out losing most of the meat.
So...............listen to your doctors and let it heal properly. Its better to have many later seasons in good shape than screwing it up really good and never being normal again!
The voice of experience has just talked to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear. GET THAT FIXED. DOn't take any shortcuts, or it will plague you forever.
rough sport. I spent all Saturday at a soccer Tourny in the Tri cities watching U8. Looked pretty damn dangerous to me.
One of the power players put the hammer down and got the ref in the balls. Folded the young lad. I don't think he was wearing a cup. LOL

I feel for ya man... last week I separated my shoulder really bad, might have to have surgery on it but they are not sure yet. the doctor about crapped when I asked if I could shoot my bow... they said plan on 2 months recovery so I should still have time to shoot before archery season starts, sucks not shooting every day like usual though...

Sorry to hear about your injury. I feel your pain. I went under the knife 2 days before the opener of modern deer last year for a fractured hand. 8 months later I am still dealing with stupid thing...Don't take any short cuts, as much as it sucks let it heal the first time!

Well, had surgery yesterday and it went pretty well. Pain was good until about 10 last night then I couldn't get it under control taking the two pain killers at a time
. Around 5am I took three and boy did that help
The next couple days will probably be the hardest time then it should get better. Go back in a couple weeks to get a hard cast, then it's 6 yo 8 weeks on crutches with no weight on the foot at all.
They said they will give me a CD with my ex-rays on it. Love that stuff. I'll try and post some when I get it.

Ok, not sure how to do this besides one post at a time so lets see how this works.
Fred’s Ankle Adventure
OK, This first couple of pictures (x-ray) was the day after it happened. These first two pictures are better then it looked at the hospital the night before. The doctor at the emergency tried to reset the ankle but as you can see he didn’t do so well. But it did look better then before. The reason the ankle is so out of joint is two of three ligaments were torn as well.

These next pictures are after the surgeon reset everything before putting on a temp cast for the week before surgery. She did a much better job!

These next pictures are from 12 days after surgery. The metal detectors will love me now
It looks pretty good so far. I have my new permanent camo cast on for the next four weeks (non weight baring). If it looks like it has heeled well by then, they will take the cast off and put a boot on so I can start getting some flexibility back in the ankle and probably start some rehab. I told her my goal was to be ready for my hunting season by mid September. She said that should be attainable
