300wsm case wrinkling...
« on: January 30, 2022, 01:23:48 PM »
I’m a relatively new reloader. I can’t seem to find a straight answer to my question. A little info: The gun is Browning a bolt 2. 23” barrel. I’m reloading Barnes brass with 168 Barnes ttsx, 67gr imr 4350. I chronographed and it shoots an average of 3050 fps With this load. The primers weren’t smashed flat and the bolt isn’t tough to open. I feel it is a safe load and I’m not pushing it to far. These brass are on their second time being reloaded.

As i resize my brass, I started to notice that some of my cases were wrinkling at the shoulder. I went through all my brass prior to resizing and never noticed and of these “wrinkles” until after I was done resizing. I’m thinking that maybe I need to aneal the brass? But was hoping to get some others opinions/advice.

I'm fairly new to reloading myself but i believe thats caused from too much lube on the case as it goes in the sizer die. Hopefully someone else can confirm.

It's to much lube on the shoulder.  You don't need to put any on the shoulder.  Those cases will still be good.  It will return to normal after you fire them.

Thanks! I was actually gonna toss them. I’m glad you stopped me. Brass is spendy these days

Use imperial sizing wax.  Best I've used by far.  A little on the finger goes a long way.

Once fired brass is fire formed to your chamber. Neck sizing should be sufficient for a few more rounds before you need a full body resize.

:yeah:

hogslayer is spot on, there doesn't need to be any lube that far up on the case.

This by far I've learned. It's easy and quick.
