6.5 PRC VV N165 help
« on: February 01, 2022, 07:13:02 AM »
I found some VV N165, and decided to pick it up. I'm running low on H1000, and have been looking for some for a LONG time. I have 140 ELDM I would like to load with it for punching paper. Anyone have any load data they would share for the 6.5prc with n165? The vihtavuori posted loads are a little scarce.

Looks like 45gr would be a good starting point. Like any "new to you" powder start low and work up.

Thanks, I appreciate it!  I had looked at those, and based on a couple people that posted QL data for N165 in 6.5 prc the max loads on here look really low.  Speeds would seem to indicate this too.  Not just for N165, but look at some of the other powders like n565.  I am loading in a new rifle, and am new enough to the game I am a little nervous about recognizing pressure signs myself.  Seen some guys are in the upper 50's for grains with n165, and claim to be below max pressure.   :yike:

Thats why you pay absolutely ZERO attention to the internet. Its a sure fire way to blow your face off. Printed book data is always gonna be low and safe. Thats strictly for liability reasons. Theres endless variables that can change the psi of a load so manufacturers have to cover their butts. There is no easy button to determine where pressure is with your rifle, brass, etc. Gotta build the ladders and do the shooting.

You're likely gonna be able to go a few grains over what their max is but you never know. Do a ladder in .5gr increments up to book, then .3gr increments from their to 2gr over. The second you feel your bolt lift starting to stiffen or primers flattening then stop. Back it off a grain and you're in safe space.

And yes I get the irony of telling you not to pay attention to loading advice on the internet while simultaneously giving you loading advice on the internet  :chuckle:

:chuckle:  True.  There's something better about a Forum like this where I have quite a few years of observing different members though.  I appreciate it, and that's what I'll work towards unless I should happen to actually find some of the more popular powders that have a lot more load information available.
