Has anyone done a coastal black bear hunt in Alaska?
« on: January 23, 2022, 02:35:01 PM »
Was cruising some hunting sites and a black bear hunt in Alaska, caught my eye. Has anyone hired a guide and done the bear hunting from a boat? What was your impression? Likes or dislikes. What would you have done differently? Who did you use? Thanks in advance.

Search Prince of Wales Island bear hunts - I remember reading a few threads about those hunts
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies

This is on my short list too. I’ve been on a multi day fishing trip on the Venturess (Premier Sportfishing) and they do top notch trips, including bear.
There is not enough wilderness left in the world, or in the hearts of men.

Prince William Sound is a great place to hunt.  I did it about a decade ago.  Try Good Time Charters out of Whittier, capt. Dave.  He's a big game 'transporter' and fishing guide.  The nuanced difference is he can't guide you....he's just the transportation and drives the boat.  Mix up the hunt with an afternoon of fishing or two. He can take you places where other hunters have been successful.
Last I checked, most of their spring hunts were booked, but you might be able to get on a wait list if there's cancellations and go in with a different group.

They also do drop hunts at a few FS cabins out there.  Having a zodiac or canoe out there could be a great way to hunt and fish.

Are you talking hunting from a boat, as in staying in a cabin and hunting the beaches using a skiff, or are you talking a boat based hunt, as in you stay on a yacht and hunt the beaches by skiff?
