Portable kennels in back of p/u and exhaust question

Hey guys I’m going to start putting my dog in a kennel with a cover  in truck bed and was wondering if there are any issues you guys who do that also have ran into with exhaust making dogs sick any precautions I should take?

I have done that for years with no issues I know of. I might be concerned it I were stuck in heavy traffic for a long period of time.

I've done it for years as have probably a bunch of other people.  Unless you have some trick exhaust that somehow directs it or the wind is blowing at the back and you are idling I wouldn't worry about it.

I've also done it for many years and never had an issue, as has everyone that I've run dogs with.

If you're getting one of those insulated mud river crate covers, they work great. Just FYI, I was always told to never zip it all the way up because the dog could theoretically suffocate. Not sure if that's true or not, but I always leave a gap between the zippers at least two inches just in case. I don't want to find out.

Heck, used to tide in pickup beds with a canopy and without for years as a kid and still alive

The dog’s in no danger of suffocating with the cover zipped, but leaving it open a couple or few inches can help a lot with condensation inside when it’s cold out.

Never had an issue with a pk,but I had a 73 blazer you had to keep the rear window closed

Most suvs are like that. The way the air moves around them creates a bubble of low pressure at the back so the exhaust gets pushed there. I think that’s why we don’t see suvs  w/ back windows that roll down, anymore.

I have heard a rumor, via my fiance, that there have been instances of CO poisoning in dogs in the back of pickups with canopies when the canopies are buttoned up tight. (CO comes in through to gap between tailgate and bed and builds up inside.) Says you are supposed to leave the window open to allow air flow through the canopy.

I am not sure I believe it. I am also sure that my opinion does not matter in this particular case.
