My son's Oregon ram
« on: March 04, 2022, 02:11:46 PM »
My son Luke drew a West Deschutes River #2 sheep tag last year. The hunt was pretty much a family affair with a couple friends along for good measure.  Between myself, my two brothers, and my two son's we have over 200 years worth of applying for an Oregon sheep tag and this was the FIRST tag in our family.

We made numerous scouting trips from early July to early October, and the season opened on October 16th.  During the summer we were seeing lots of young rams, ewes and lambs, but the bigger rams began coming out of the woodwork the end of September.

We had several really good rams spotted before the season and one in particular we felt was in the mid 170's that was just above the railroad tracks and river.  But a tribal hunter killed it the day before Luke's season started.  Plan B for opening day....we found a ram that Luke really liked, but by the time we got the boat and came downstream the sheep had moved up a side canyon.  Luke and friend Kyle went up the big side canyon and it was loaded with sheep with numerous rams on the move. They found a ram that Luke liked and he made a one shot clean kill.

Here's a few photos from the hunt...

Last 2 photos.  Notice the rams shadow on the rocks in the top photo.

That's a great ram.  Bet it still was in the 170s.
