Wyoming region R and region F
« on: February 21, 2022, 10:02:08 AM »
so i finally did it I put in for another state besides Idaho. I'm hoping I put in for decent regions. I went off of word of mouth for region F and my good friend lives near region R in Greybull, and is now a resident so he is gong to get his hunting license for the first time. never killed anything in his life. so my question to you guys is. is there anybody on here that puts in for these regions? if so what are the odds we get drawn. i say we because, its me, my dad, my 15 year old, and my other good friend. we are putting in as partners. ive visited before and we went for quad rides in region r saw some deer and i know where I'm putting my wall tent. but im going in blind for region F. ill figure that region out if I get drawn. any pointers for a out of state Wyoming hunt. or do you guys think we even have a chance for getting drawn for those regions. any input is appreciated. And yes I put in for pronghorn but know I will not get drawn, but have to start the process so I can start getting my preference points.

Are you going to apply Regular or Special?'

According to goHunt data from last year
Region F odds with 0 pts:  Regular 47%, Special 100%
Region R odds with 0 pts: Regular 10%, Special 100%

Of those two regions, you can only draw as a first choice (in the regular draw). A second choice can only be drawn if there are more tags available than first choice applicants. If you really want to hunt Wyoming this year, you should probably apply for F, and not R. Or spend the extra money in the special draw, then you can draw either one, with 100% odds. Special draw is $677, versus $389 for the regular draw.

I know you said you have a resident friend, but remember all the crosshatched(majority of public) areas require you to have a guide or resident with you at all times.

what species are you wanting to target, muley or whitey? That can play a factor in the area you hunt.
Last year Muley success rate was about 45% and Whitey was near 100%, but they are in different parts of the zone

F appears to have the best odds to draw this year.  Good luck

PS - if you really know you won't be drawn for pronghorn. You can always buy the preference points from mid-July to October 31st. no reason to give the state a loan of $270/person  :twocents:

so im hunting for mule deer mostly but if a whitetail bucks shows him self i will shoot it but more than likely we are in muley country. so I was a little unclear about the specials draws and regular draws so i just put in for regular draws i was was under the understanding that the special draws were for doe for region r and region f for both whitetail and mule deer can you guys educate me on the special draws it might be me but it is kinda confusing.

Special draw is for the same tag, you just pay more for hopefully better odds.  There are tons of resources if you go on Google or YouTube that explain it in excruciating detail, it's a pretty complicated system.

oh and yes i know about the wilderness areas. and i was under the assumption you have to put in for pronghorn before you are able to put in for preference points. but like i said this is my first time and looks like i needed to do more research
