Neah Bay opening
« on: March 13, 2022, 10:03:47 AM »
Looks as though the Makah nation will be opening their land to access. Gonna make that boat run so nice. Been many years since I have run out of there. What can I expect?

The roads suck.
Hopefully the slide repair west of clallam gets fixed soon. The bypass is crap for towing.
113 is pretty much crap from 101 to clallam. Trailer tire destroyer.
Lock up your stuff.
I wouldn't expect to many crowds. Guys have gotten comfortable running from Mason's. But time will tell.

Have you guys had that much stuff stolen out there?  I used to commercially fish out of Neah Bay a couple of weeks a year, never had a problem with my boat or my truck.

I stopped fishing out of neah probably ten years ago... just run up from CQ now ..I enjoy the boat ride ..
I would always end up missing something.
Guys I know loose coolers and fishing gear once in a while.

Roger that, good to know.  I guess I got lucky. I was warned about leaving coolers out, marina manager said kids would check them for beer.

The only problem I ever had was one native fisherman that kept tying up in my assigned slip the first year.

CQ was ripping $20 for crappy launch last year. Just looking to save $$ and hours on the boat. 101 from the south was fine. Damage west of Clallam you say?

This was the slide
It's clear but they are stabilizing the hillside.
The detour is up past the jail on old logging roads... it's gravel on a good day. Hwy may be open by halibut..
I've been working on my property up there the last few weeks and towing my dump trailer has sucked. Pretty much from the 112 cutoff into clallam bay is going to eat allot of wheel bearings.
I haven't driven up to neah but I'm sure the road isn't much better.
Your guna probably pay just as much to launch in neah as well.
Mason's does get ya but between them and van ripers you don't have many options...

Genius :lol4:

Yes stuff will get stolen at Neah and La Push. Both are crappy launches too. Sekiu is much better for less thieving and launching. Extreme low tides are a little bumpy at Sekiu though. The roads to Neah are pretty bad. Luckily the waters from Sekiu to Neah are usually easy sailing.
